So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

What are you doing up at that hour?

I'm usually in bed sleeping, but lately around 3 or 4 in the morning I'm awake. So I read til my eyes get tired, drop my book and sleep a little more until my cat Luna or her little sister Sammy jumps on the bed to play. When I don't respond, they curl up next to me and take a nap.

I didn't go out to have steak. DH was really tired and I'm not much for going out lately so we ordered fried chicken with fried potato skins and other fried junk we shouldn't eat....well I paid for that the next day. I was running to the bathroom all morning. That'll teach me. And I had to go over to the hospital to get those little stitches out, and I was worried that I would need the bathroom again......but it was OK, I didn't need to. *whew* The people at the hospital are very nice, but I get nervous if I go near one right now and this hospital won't be the one I have to go to if I get a high temp (cause of the chemo) I will have to go to the one that is closer in my town. They're nice there too, but they also have a record for staph infections.

I guess that can happen anywhere....

I'll be cleaning out the rest of my garden beds today and tomorrow and whatever I can do on Monday & Tuesday, keep myself busy and my mind free for a while. I was in the grocery store yesterday and I noticed one of the clerks had on a wig and you can tell she was a chemo patient. I thought "not bad, not too noticeable" I wonder if I would even notice the wig or her mild eyebrows if I wasn't in this position (?)

Coyote, did you adopt your Luna's other litter mates? How nice for them! So, how many critters do you have now? Your DH doesn't mind? I have 4 cats, 1 old Pomeranian and 5 chooks. That's enough for me, since I'm the one who takes care of them all. I suppose I'll have to pick up some face masks for when I scoop the litter box. I bought a boat load of hand sanatizer and couple of soft toothbrushes so I don't damage my gums. There's so much to think about to prepare myself! I heard from Sara yesterday.....she went for her second treatment yesterday and said she was losing her hair in clumps now. So I'm figuring mine will be coming out around mid May. If it comes out clumpy I'll have DH shave my head, heck I'm always shaving his to keep him looking mean, now he'll have to do mine. He better do a good job! I think I'll go to JoAnn's and pick up some fabric and make my own scarves. CM - what kind of head gear were you wearing, and how is your hair now? Told you I can be a PIA with my nosy questions.

My dog and I would fight over who got to wear the cuter scarf, lol. Spook has all kinds of cute bandanas that she wears. Some of them were really big so I cut them in half. (corner to corner) sewed the edge so it wouldn't fray. I would pin the "flaps" down with a couple of small safety pins. I wore those, a few of those skull caps, I've got them in all kinds of colors. I wore the one with skulls and crossbones the day of my masectomy. The nurses didn't get it, but my doc busted up laughing. I've got a pattern for them some where. I had a "beanie" that I wore to bed to help keep me warm. I didn't realize how much heat you can loose through your head.

My last treatment of Taxoter was in late September, my hair started coming back by Christmas that year. Slowly at first but now it grows as fast as it did before. I had curly hair as a little kid that got straighter when I got older. Since it's come back in it's as curly as it was when I was younger. I've kept my hair short since I was about 9. (Shirley Temple curls DO NOT fit under a Baseball Catchers gear!!) My hair is a little over an inch long, if it's humid or I'm sweating it curls up better than any ol' curly perm, lol.

Yup, Lucky Louie and Lucy Loo are my little Luna's brother and sister. Lucy is really having a problem with one of her eyes and i'm afraid it's going to have to be removed. Better that than repeated infections. They are so funny together. My 2 oldest cats (17yrs) Butterscotch and Bashful are littermates as well. I had their mother, MowMow Someone had left MowMow behind when they moved and I just couldn't let her go hungry. She ran off after we moved to our last house. I searched for her for 2 years. The FatBeast (13yrs) just showed up on the doorstep one day and Spook adopted him. So I've got 6 cats and a dog that thinks she is a cat, 7 full grown chickens, 18 chicks, and 26 Bobwhite quail, lol.

You can still do all the things you like to as long as you feel up to it and you take precautions, like gloves and the mask. Oh yeah, sunscreen, some of these chemo drugs make you fry in the sun. I would use Water Babies and wear a big straw hat when kayaking or working out in the yard. Instead of miles of kayaking, we would paddle a half mile to a cove and just swim/float in the water all day or nap on the beach. Mini garden jobs, pull a few weeds-go in and rest, come out a few hours later--water the 'maters. Biggest thing I had to learn was not to over-do-it. Even now I wipe myself out and am down for days.

We're here for the long haul, just set back and enjoy the ride.

Hi I'm here.
big_smile.png
Yesterday my sister came over and we exchanged BD gifts. Then I was going to finish up my sewing project, but got lazy and wound up watching TV with DH. I usually don't watch much TV, but I'm getting the hang of it lately. I'm getting hooked on Nurse Jackie. lol

My appt tomorrow is at 9:10 am. I've been eating light and making sure I'm using the hand sanitizer whenever I think about it which has been a lot lately. Getting myself ready........I'll be eating a boiled egg for breakfast and will bring a shake and some oyster crackers to munch on, if I have any kind of appetite. I've lost 8 lbs from anxiety, I had been wanting to lose 10 lbs for the summer...but I don't recommend this type of diet, even though it worked for me.

I have to stop by the pharmacy later today to pick up my prednisone and the other thing for nausea, I forgot the name it started with a "V" I think. It's what they use over there. I'm looking for those pretty garden boots to use in the yard to protect my feet from possible injury, I'm a klutz in the yard and usually hurt myself somehow

So I better be careful. Another thing I used to do was pick at my cuticles, sometimes til they bled (BAD HABIT) I think I'm conquering that one too.

I have some butterflies in my stomach, but not too bad. I'll save the xanax for tomorrow morning.

IHWIMY - how's your friend doing?

CM - Aren't you on the East coast? Are you a night owl?
lol.png
I'll probably be up all Wed night - not sure how the steroid is going to affect me, you gonna be around?

I get so buzy during the day doing, I don't know what because nothing ever seems to be getting done, that I spend evenings catching up on everything on the computer. Hubby tucked in, Spook snoring only the cats are left to lay across the keyboard, when I look up it's 2am or later!

I remember logging off last night and having a kitty jumping up into my lap. Next thing I know, the phone is ringing and it's 11:30am

I'll be here waiting for you!
