Lunachick - I am sorry that you have to go through this and healing thoughts are being sent with this post.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy 6 years ago. The surgery was uneventful - I was up and walking laps around the hospital floor the next day. This was recommended to hasten the healing process. I was a tad sore and it was a bit uncomfortable getting up from a prone position for a couple of weeks but other than that and just tiring easily post surgery, I have never regretted having the operation. The day after the surgery, I was started on hormone replacement therapy since I was pre-menopausal (40 yrs old) at the time. I have a 5" scar below my bikini line that has faded out to almost nothing over time. An earlier post referred to the hystersister site, which I visited also and got a lot of good information out of it as well. The only thing I really didn't like about the site was a couple of women who posted said they felt "less of a woman" due to the loss of their reproductive organs - this was proof positive that sometimes too much information before-hand can be overwhelming. I am a woman - strong when I need to be and soft and feminine when I need to be - just as I feel that you are - no surgical procedure can change that. Call on that strength of yours now and above all else, stay positive in your outlook and human in your emotions...You will do fine.

I meet my surgeon today at 10:15. I'm getting nervous!

Breakfast: A glass of water and xanax.
