So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Luna, when the doctors office isn't open feel free to call the hospital and ask to speak to a nurse on the floor where you were. Perhaps there's one you remember from your care there?

When a bruise changes colors, it can be because the hemoglobin is breaking down. so, yes, it can be a good sign that your body is just cleaning up an old problem. Still, glad you called the doc.

Hello Luna- Gad to hear you are feeling well after your surgery.
The bruising, while not common, does happen to some. I think it has to do with blood loss during surgery. Obviously, speak to your doctor, and keep in tune with yourself to ensure there are no other symptoms. Don't be afraid to report/discuss any and all concerns to the doctor. Meanwhile, though, don't get too upset at the bruising. I didn't have bruising after my hyst, but I have heard the bruising can look pretty horrible.
As for the swelling, it is normal to have some after surgery.

Luna honey bruising is very normal. The bruising always seems to look worse before it starts to look bettter. The bruising is caused by tissue trauma which will happen with any type of surgery. Signs of bruising that may be abnormal. If you find the bruising is increasing, find a hardened area which could be a hematoma. As a nurse If I find bruising on my patient and I want to watch I circle it with a pen or marker going around all the edges. if I noticed it increasing beyond the edges I might keep a cautious watch on it and let the doctor know but most of the time bruising is very superficial and will heal on its own. If you find yourself worrying, go ahead and call the surgical unit you were on. The nurse does not have to generally remember you, just explain what you had done and describe the problem. Feel better!

An incision across the pelvic line is just like a c-section.. I have had 2 c-sections.. For the first few weeks, getting out of bed and up from the sitting position causes a bit of pain. But once your standing walking is fine except for a tiny bit slower.. By 3 months.. I had forgotten all about the pain and every thing was almost completely normal.. Its not really major surgery.. I think you will be all the way asleep.. Unlike a c-section, your awake when they do it.. Every thing will be ok.. Dont worry..

If this gets to you after the fact Im sorry I didnt read the whole thread.

been busy with a sick daughter (pneumonia) and a sick chicken (yet to be determined but someone here in the emerg. section suggested mericks... sigh)... so now I'm checking up on you.

I read the last page and people were talking to you about bruising.... oh do I know about that. The last times in the hospital I had horrible bruises all up and down my arms and my stomach where they were giving me shots or drawing blood... and I'm not even on the coumadin anymore.... but 1 aspirin and plavix thin blood too. Yeah... those bruises seem to come out of no where and then get REAL ugly and dark purple and then start turning green and then yellow. It's crazy.

I hope you remember to *cough--clears throat* take it eaaaasay.

I called the Dr.'s office this morning, and they said that the bruising is normal and as long as everything else is fine, like no oozing from the wounds or fever, I'm good.

Better safe than sorry. I actually did a nice stretch this morning. No more stooping.

Grit - thanks for the advice, I was almost ready to call there. But I felt so fine that I decided to wait til morning and call the surgeon. *whew*

Thank you all for replying, it gave me peace of mind. What would I do without you all?
