So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

First CM you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have won the cancer fight 2 times. But worry daily about it comimg back, there is just so much cancer out there.

My friend T's mom was told she had lung cancer 2 months ago. She went for the EKG test for preop and found out she had to have heart stints put in before she could have the cancer surgey. Her mom was still in rehab and "T" takes her DH to the doctor for a back ache that had bothered him off and on seince(sp) July. The doctor does a MRI and found some growths on his spine. Well after more testing they find out he has stage 4 lung cancer that has speard to his spine, brain and his organs. The doctors gave him 14 months. They are doing radiation and chemo to shrink the tumors and give him a little better quality of life. They are both in their 50's. It is just so heart braking.
I just wonder like every one eles when wiil they find how to prevent cancer.

You both crack me up!!! I just love you guys. My friend Marcie whose cancer returned got married about 10 days ago. She told everyone at the wedding that complained about the pink latrine that she is in remission from one cancer and terminal with another, so if she wanted a pink latrine by God she was getting a pink latrine! Her wedding was beautiful, she was brought in on a Harley, and her husband was escorted in by two deputies lol!!

I remember what it was like for my Chewgum Granma (she always had Wriggley Double Mint gum, lol so that's a name all us kids called her) when she had stomach cancer. She was getting radiation every 3 days. It made her so sick. She was a thin woman to start with but she lost so much weight, you could count every single bone in her body. That was when I was in my Sr. year of High School. Things have changed so much since then. My brother had radiation for his lung cancer as well but by the time they found it one lung was already gone and most of the other one was too. Alcohol numbed him so much that he ignored the pain of it growning. He was a smoker so he always had a cough. We thought he had the flu. 3 months later he was gone. Granma actually died on his 26th birthday. He died 11 days past his 43rd, 5 years younger than I am now.

Many changes from where it was, but so much further to go. Why don't we have a cure by now? $$$$$$$ IMHO. Too much $$$$ being made by the big companies to really find something that is going to end this.

Tomorrow I go for my MRI. I swear, I've had so much stuff shot into my veins lately I'm going to start glowing in the dark myself. I just want to get this chemo portion over with!!! Don't want to be tossing my guts on Christmas!!

You know Luna, my boss who was a blonde before chemo, ended up with dark and grey hair when it came back in. She never had dark hair in her life! My Aunt Tiny (yes another nickname) said she wanted to come back as a "raunchy redhead". Her words, not mine! I said I'd deal with anything but red! I have a redheaded sister. Mine came in the usual mouse brown and white. I've skipped right over grey and went straight to white hair. That's from my mom's side of the family. They all got white headed. Dad's side was silver guys and blue grey for the ladies. Mine did come in curly. I had curly hair as a little kid but it got straighter as I got older. I keep it short. I get out of the shower, dry with a towel and shake it. Ready to go!

Headed to bed early. Been working on the fencing for the yard. Tired. Can't take any asprin, Aleve etc until after Thursday surgery and my back is KILLING ME!!

Night ya'll

Surgeon couldn't get the port to thread into the vein! I have to go back tomorrow and let the radiologist give it a go! They were too backed up to do it today.

ETA---Have been taking Katie along to all of these appointments to give her exposure to all kinds of things we may come in contact with as my Service Dog. (NC treats Service Dogs in Training the same as Trained Service Dogs as to where they can go) She has been doing absolutely wonderfully!! Bunch of folks we saw today knew Spook, several thought Katie was Spook, until we told them what had happen to her. Katie is a totally different puppy when she puts on her Service Dog in Training vest. She is a calmer, holds her head high and is highly interested in all the things she has been seeing. Only 1 problem so far, and that was today. When they brought me back to my room, I had the smell of the anestesia(sp) on me and it made her nervous and a bit standoffish towards me. Daddy kept reassuring her it was ok. Spook didn't like that smell either. After we got home, I led her into the backyard where we played with her "Jolly Ball" and things are back to normal now.

We have this wonderful man that volunteers at the Hospital named Noel. He came in a bit early today because he knew we were going to be there bright and early to drive the "cart" over to the main building from the check-in, but more specificly, he came in early to see Katie. He adored Spook and had learned all he could about her and Service Dogs to share with people that came in contact with us. He came in this morning and knelt down in front of Katie which led the a great big Katie hug and lots of puppy kisses. He's one of the bright spots that makes this whole journey bareable.

GAWD!!! Had my port put in today by the radiologist. I feel like I've been hit by a truck!! They gave me something to relax me but not knock me out like yesterday. Then he used Novacane to numb the area. Thing it just below my collarbone with the cath going up and over the bone then into my jugular and down towards my heart. It hurts from my jaw bone down into my right boob! Thankfully they gave me some pain meds because I still can't take my Naproxen that I use for the neuropathy and arthritis!! Not for another week!

Even more exciting, I can't take a shower for 2 weeks as I can't get the sugical site wet!! Unless I put a plastic bag over my head and shoulders, it's gonna get wet!

Where are my drugs? Time for bed!
