So tell me about Cayuga ducks

Ohh cayugas are amazing ducks , very we'll hidden at night so nothing takes them . Mine love to swim . My pure bred cayugas can't fly but my Cayuga mixed with a west indies ( the duck that Cayugas came from ) can . So just be sure it doesn't mate with a mallard or call duck . Because then it will fly .

They really don't seem to eat slot but do enjoy grass . More than the game bird corn that I give mine .

My Cayugas are now 6 weeks old and are showing colour on their heads, is it true that the females are not as colourful as the males?  The pictures I have seen don't seem to show much difference.  Can anyone tell me when the male tail curl becomes evident?  I think they are just gorgeous but mine have come from a 'backyard mix' and I wonder when I will know for sure how much colour they will have?  We put their 'tractor' in the garden about a week ago and I see that they are eating different plant leaves but I have stopped feeding them the succulent grass that I had been hand feeding them. I had started to dig an asparagus bed and was unable to finish it so we have filled the hole with plastic and the ducks love it, they are in there umpteen times a day but as Hendrix25 talks about they swim, wander and then have a rest. I have 2 Saxonies also (same hatch) but all of mine seem rather scared of me they talk to me when I come out to let them free range through the garden and "Mama Chicken" will come running for treats but I am afraid to take them into the orchard for fear I won't be able to get them back to the garden and their coop. Any input would be appreciated as I have now had chickens for a year but am actually a city girl so it is all new to me but it is fun.  Thanks

Someone probably already answered this )

The more white that is on a duck means it's a girl same for the ducklings the more yellow you see on the duckling the more likely it's a girl .

I've just joined here and am enjoying the comments about cayugas!
I have had them (and Khaki Campbells) for 4 years and love them all.

I have been having trouble with some of their feet though and wonder if it is something they are eating.
They have a build up of a white pasty (yukky) stuff and it becomes very hard. I soak it in epsom salts and
end up opening a hole with a needle and it eventually all comes out and seems to get better.
Has anyone heard of this? The other ducks don't seem to be affected.
Plus, mine all love the pond I have and are in and out of it all day long.
They love to dive under and play alot too.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I just got this little cutie today. Can anyone tell me if it is a Cayuga?

It certainly looks like one to me. They often have some yellow/gray right there on their chests as ducklings. :)

I'm sorry, I have no idea what could be going on with your ducks, though. Sorry. :/ Maybe post about this in the Emergencies/Diseases board to get more attention?

Thank you! I just got it yesterday from a local feed supply store. I already have one. We call him Baby Duck and he is a year old and is an inside duck. This one will be the same

I think you are right about the yellow on the breast--I had 4 cayugas hatch 2 months
ago and one with a yellow patch and that is the ony girl. (darn)
A broody bantie hatched them and it was so cute when they got larger
than her and she was still bossing them around.
