So, these ducks just showed up...

We were driving down our road Saturday, about 3/4 mile from our house, and saw the nine Pekins down in the creek on a neighbor's place. On the way back in a few hours later, they'd moved down the creek a little more. Seems like they're walking/swimming downstream, looking for a place to settle.

I was glad to see they hadn't been eaten by the local predator population yet, though.

Sounds like how I try to tell my husband that things show up at our house...

So I was at the store and when I got home these ducks had just showed up!? Crazy huh?

Pekins don't fly, so chances are you'll come home to fewer ducks than were there before too long. If possible, bring them to any pond (they'll hopefully float to the middle to thwart predation) and feed them duck food. Layer pellets/crumbles (not mash), grower/finisher, cracked corn (in extreme cases where nothing else is available), or scratch grains (also in extreme cases). Try to not give them anything with protein higher than 18%.

I give my ducks higher than 18% protein all the time.....in the form of WORMS

Live worms are almost 30% protein. I dug some out of the compost pile this morning. Uno always gets the biggest ones because she is friendly enough to eat them out of my hand.

After I went back in the house, I looked outside and all three were standing on the compost pile seeing if they could find more...LOL
