So this @duckfarmer1 finally got some new Muscovies!!

Yeah!! I’ve been waiting...a friend my town was hatching some beautiful Muscovies. She was giving me first! There was a lavender setting on a bunch of eggs, and I wanted a few soooo bad!! But, then the COVID-19 ampted up so I decided to get the ducklings earlier...I got 2 adorable black and whites, one blue..and one, that might turn out to be a silver? I e not seen one of those but my friend said from the sheen on her head, it might be possible. If not, I love the white ones too..they show up better in the fields!! So, they are in the brooder, in the den. I got them at 3 days old...no stick for quite awhile...we’ll, that of course, has changed... Unfortunately, I don’t have much time for them as I’d like, as the farm has really gotten big! We are on FB now and I supply chicken eggs to 2 restaurant, one store and a baker. I sell goat cheese, fudge and, milk. We are also going to bale our own hay this year, so..it’s been crazy..but, these guys are being loved as much as I can...now they just need names!!

Would love to know more about supplying eggs to resturaunts. What legal hoops did you have to jump through? How many eggs do they order? How does their price compare to retail price?

@Ratchnick ....Well, you have you go through you own state agricultural website. Selling eggs, and produce is just an easy form..1, 2, 3..you have to keep track of collection dates, etc., but I do that anyways. Selling milk, and dairy is a whoollle different ballgame! You need to get insurance..it’s cheap though. Them you get permits through the state. Then you need state inspections of your kitchen. That’s a regular thing. Go through your state’s agricultural dept. I went online and the woman in charge, emailed and sent me the forms and even called me. They made it very simple for me. My restaurants....they pay my asking price..$2.50 per day. They never asked for a discount, but I would’ve given them one, since they order in bulk. My baker buys weekly..I charge him $2..he asked. In the fall he will be buying 10dz per week...can’t go wrong there!! Except, that I will have an awful lot of eggs that I might have during the off seasons, that I don’t sell? In that case, I can mark down my price. I’m not concerned. I buy the feed in bulk and get a great deal. Plus, my chickens love beer grain. We we’re getting that for free from the local brewery. Apparently chickens thrive on the stuff. While they were getting it..my eggs were up...now that the brewery is closed, I’m down 2-3 a day! Doesn’t sound like much, but I’m crunching numbers now.... I sell to two stores...I sell at my regular price. They are in a fishing/camping area..so the6 are selling for $3...without problem. My hoarder, that wants all of my eggs, from here on out...well..I’m selling him my pullet eggs..for $1.50. I was giving them away to friends. But, now we can’t go see them. Right now...I absolutely hate to say this, but for a small farm...right now...our goods are up. People want fresh stuff, not going to the store. The paperwork didn’t take long at all..I was more delayed about doing it...because my hubby was worried about...foot traffic. That’s why we put a fridge up at our garage. I made a FB page...it’s..sort of easy..no it’s not at all..but I’m not good with that stuff. My friend helped me and now it’s easy. But, people are knocking down our doors!! Good luck!!Ohh..you ,igniting want to do a hatch? I started an incubation...the people are watching this incubator just sitting there. It’s kind of funny. But, they all want to buy chicks. I sold 42 bunnies in less than 2 weeks!! Posts like these on FB got people all excited!! Who knew!! Lol

What did the inspection of your kitchen look like? Do you have an industrial kitchen? Did the usda get involved or are all the legal hoops at the state level?

Thanks for the suggestions! I've looked on craigslist ,not much available locally. The closest person with chicks /juveniles is a 2 hour drive from here. Another lady is selling fully grown females but again thats over an hour and half to 2 hours from here. I'm kind of leary of buying fully grown ducks though because I wont know exactly how old they really are or how much time has spent with them. I'd like to start with younger birds (under a year old )to make sure egg production is as good as it can be and I'd like my birds to be as tame as possible. I have enough room in my coop and run to house 4 to 5 birds comfortably so right now I'm looking to add 3 females. Not sure what my little one is yet. Hoping its a female though.Hatcheries usually only sell straight run and even when they do offer sexed muscovies they usually won't sell less than 15 birds at a time. I do have some leads on a few breeders on Fb(gorgeous birds!) but they are really far from here . It would be quite a trip for those birds to get here! I sure would love to have a beautiful blue or lavender hen though! (I'm in north Florida)

Just a normal kitchen...just regular people coming in to make sure I had adequate space, clean tools....it was nerve wracking though..they looked through everything...and we cleaned like crazy before!! .it was all done at state level except the insurance is through the country. But you only need all of that if you plan to sell things like cheese or milk, not just for eggs.
