My first ever incubator hatch was going awesome.
Went to bed, got up this morning, humidity spiked, high condensation, one dead baby, fully hatched, but still wet.
other eggs not zipping anymore, i thhink the rest drowned.
was looking like i would have had an almost perfect hatch. now i am at work and there is nothing i can do.
also one chick has shell stuck to its back, will it die in 8 hours without intervention?

If the humidity is still high the stuck shell should come off. But if its still there when you get home - give it a little help.

What killed the hatched chick? I've not heard of high humidity getting one after its out of the shell.

I completely understand. We are looking gloomy here. We are at 24 days and no hatching. Heard peeping on day 21 then nothing. I openned one egg yesterday to find a fully developed chick that was not alive.

Giving the others a couple more days.

not sure what killed the hatched chick, maybe tried to hard to get out, not sure, was perfectly developed, just gave up I guess.

good news though.

Got home from work, less then an hour ago, I had more hatch, yay. It appears only 4 eggs didn't hatch. so, 35 healthy chicks out of 40 eggs is pretty good. Mother Nature was kind to me today. Bless her.

The humidity has dropped to 62%, so now, what is the best way to get the shells off the backs of teh two babes ???

I think that is a really good hatch, form what I have heard. Sorry for the lose of the one that did not make it. I am so looking forward tot eh day that I get to start my incubator (have to build it first).

so I shut the bator down, now the cleanup.

I now have a new sad issue to deal with and my 9 year old daughter is bound and determined to save it. One of the tinier black chicks, super cute, has the curled toes. I told my daughter that it's chances are 50/50 really that it's going to make it or not. She thinks she can save it. She won't let me discuss the option of putting it down.

I tried the triangle booties, nope, poor thing kept flipping backwards, and then would get one shoe stuck behind the other, so off they came.
I tried to give it some vit. E, I dipped its beak in the vitamin starter water to give it a boost. What else can one do ? Is there hope for the critter?

My daughter is the optimist of all, she always sees the potential in possibilities. I told her we would do what we could, but, there would be no guarantees. She's got a kind heart for animals, she is determined.

any other ideas and what is the cause of this condition?
