how did it go over?

Hi Ladies,
I didn't snip the V, I'll try that today...
I bought small grommets, a black zipper and my machine does button holes so we're going to try all 3 on some scrap fabric to see which looks the best to close up the back with... well we won't install the zipper, just pin to see how that one looks.

DD loved the progress so far, we worked this weekend at pinning up some ribbon to see how the lacing would work and we both definitely like that...

Pics in a couple of days with more progress

Thanks so much for all the support!

OH.. and the most fun yet... there is enough of the dark pink material to make another 2 dresses... so next.. I'll make one for ME to wear to the Military Ball... can't wait!

No way can she work the machine... somehow broken tools & stuff seem to plague her

and the last thing I want is to turn this into another tiff about being careful.... or worse.. scrap her dress & mine because the new machine doesn't work anymore. But she's all in on the cutting, pinning, designing, etc... also she's on a mission to design canvas totes & purses along with bedazzling jeans etc along side of me with her beading & stuff.. so... no sewing with the machine.. not yet. Eventually... on another project

It's beautiful!! My g.f. is a dream seamstress when she is in the mood, and one of my DD's was chunky as a teen and finding pretty dresses that complimented was hard to find. DGF made a gorgeous black soft satin (have no idea what it was, but it had an embossed floral design in it, and was just like satin, only "softer", just lovely . . .with an emerald green lining in the hem that was cut up in front and the sleeves that "billowed". It was one of her favorite dresses and she still talks about it!!! I love your choice of colors!! How is she wearing her hair?

Hi Whispering Winds!
What a great way to get a custom fitted dress... cheers to your g.f.
She mentioned a tiara or headpiece and she'll be working on that...but most certainly an Up-do.

well.. off to get sewing again and work on the back of the dress... I'm doing great for my first try!

Just caught this thread. I think you are doing an awesome job. What a great project for you and your DD. I've never made anything but halloween costumes (all mistakes hidden in the dark LOL) Can't wait to see more pics of the progress.

Lovely dress - glamorous, yet somewhat modest. I know that the teens want to look all grown up, but some of these dresses are tooo much! You did a great job.

A woman I know posted photos of her 14 y.o. from Homecoming & those younguns looked like Vegas showgirls.

Froggie & Maven, thank you both for your words of encouragement! Today's dress is quite revealing, and then the only ones that aren't are somehow just not as cute. It's been great to work on a custom dress that has all the best features of both. While she's decided to go with the lace up back.. I'll still be adding a panel so that it laces over fabric, not skin.. all the style without the exposure

She'll be home shortly so we'll get back to work soon... grommets are ready to go and the V shape has been pinned & marked
