So we're going to try & make a formal dress *Latest Pics Post #101*

hee hee, sounds like my house projects all over, looks like a zoo in my house right now. I got Button quail, coturnix quail, 2 week old chicks, 3 day old chicks, a blue fronted amazon parrot, a blue and gold macaw, a bottle goat and a 20 day old piggie in the house....not to mention the dogs! WOO HOO what fun!

Well.. I have my new machine setup, my worskspace prepared... but I'm nervous now

I don't want to waste any fabric, not even scraps!!! How silly of me I know. I may ease the transition by working with tissue paper first but if all else fails I have the scraps I can use.

ok folks... this is no longer a drill. Project Runway Season 1 has arrived via Netflix and I'm nervous but ready to get sewing!

Well.. I got started

I made the top basic shape using tissue paper first, exactly the size it should be
Then I layed that onto the fabric, pinned it down with a 2" margin and used my rotary cutter WOW WHAT AN AWESOME TOOL to cut the top! I didn't get too crazy so I just left all the extra fabric in the back for this time... so it basically is a halter top now. I put it on the form pinned it to stay steady and started making the front darts(?).

Hooray.. so far so good. And I'm not nervous anymore

Next is to cut the liner(?) for the top and then sew that together at the V neck.

You can also see I've made my bodice lines? with contrasting duct tape instead of ribbon.

A zipper isn't all that hard, i was intimidated at first too, it helps me to sew the piece I want to attach the zipper to first, you know, basically baste it. It helps to keep it from slipping and not being finished. You can also get away with a shorter zipper if you do side, especially with the empire waist.
You'll be fine, it's coming along nicely!
