I had brahmas and got rid of them. They were okay, nothing really wrong with them, except their feathery feets got dirty and muddy all the time. Too much maintenance. Pretty birds, but not for me.
indian red junglefowl.. Not friendly at all. in a pen -Runs around. flying around your head... cant catch them. if you catch them they scream like bloody murder.. and dont even lay fair sized eggs... On the yard.. their just pretty... cant do anything with them then
I would say Favorelles. I have a RIR roo, that I am just waiting and hoping that he doesn't get mean. He is so pretty and I really hope that he will stay nice!
Golden campines, particularly roosters. They are not mean by any stretch, but the current roo I have is annoying as heck, constantly harrassing me for treats from the moment I go outside (my birds free range). It just gets old after awhile.....
Also - maran roosters. They are not very good with childeren. I had put down my wheaten roo after it attacked my daughter; and would not respond to the training I tried (from rooster red's post), as it even tried to flog me several times after tryng his suggestions. I still have a blue copper roo, that I keep locked in its own pen (also aggressive toward my kids, but not to me at least, so far). Once I can get a few blue hens bred from it, I will probably rehome or put it down as well. Love the hens and the eggs, don't like the roos. I have a welsumer roo and faverolle roo that are great with my kids, so it is not just a rooster thing...
I really, really dislike my 2 White Leghorns. They are extremely unfriendly, flighty and just not nice birds to have around in your backyard.
Also, the Golden Pencilled Hamburg that came with my McMurray Rainbow Layers this last spring is similar to the GPH. All three are "leaving the premises" soon.
Also, the Partridge Rock is not the friendliest thing in the world either. My White Rock is the greediest bird I have ever seen, but she lays double yolk eggs sometimes though.
Any meat bird....I raised them and they got so big they my mom had to come get them and eat them.....she's a ol chicken farmer from the 70s ...when I was born and I remember the slaughter day...very well.
I raised some chicks in my classroom and didn't know what kind they were...of course....they give you a bator and eggs and you hatch them....this was about 6 yrs ago. Love of chickens even then.
One night the light went out and I came into the classroom finding a bunch of chicks laying down almost dead on paper. Literally peeled them off the paper and rubbed them and gave them chicken CPR....all to know they were meat chicks.
Oh well.....life goes on! Mom said they were wonderful! I keep my mom away from my coop now!! Meat eater!
