Leghorns---flippin loonies!!! Especially Obelisk...you reach for her and it's like you have the Shake n Bake bag ready for her...sheesh...
I've had her for 5 years and have YET to try to eat her...
I've liked every other breed I had...even my Leghorn roo was a dear.
I love all chickens, but Leghorns are my least favourite.
Great for eggs!!!!!!!!
But so scared and skittish
I like eggs but i like chickens i can hold or at least get a hold of f needed
I would have to agree with the Leghorns also. My Exchequer is a freak! She chases all the other chickens out of the coop just so she can go lay her egg. As if she couldn't just walk over there and go lay it. None of the others would have even cared. She won't let us near her. Once you catch her, she's not too bad, but its almost not worth the effort.
I only have 1 RIR, from McMurray. She's been one of our favorites, but she too is standoffish. Unless of course you have treats, then she is there jumping 3 ft off the ground to snag stuff out of your hand.
I don't particularily care for bantams, especially the roosters. They are annoying things and tend to pick on anything weaker than they are. They also never give the hens a rest. The only other rooster I had to go nasty on me was a black austrolorpe I raised from a chick. He attacked anything that moved with no provocation. One night he did not go back up with the others and was gone the next day. That was the Summer of the Coons. We did not shed a tear.
