So what do you do with a stray chicken? advice?

Wow, what a find. She's a cutie. Too bad about the mites; good thing you knew to quarantine and check for them. You could have ignored the bird, but you did the right thing by tending to it. Good luck and keep us updated.

I just came across this post and had to say if she is like mine (I have her exact TWIN

) KEEP HER! That one chicken (whom we call "Pigeon") is the BEST, SWEETEST, MOST GENTLE out of ALL of them in the flock! She sings to me when she sees me, follows me around the yard, wants to be held and will sit on my shoulder as long as I will let her (and she seems to think I am her rooster - a little disconcerting...hard to explain to my neighbors 6 year old...but she is very attached to me)! YOU have AWESOME chicken kharma if she is even half as sweet as my little Pigeon is! Plus, I think my Pigeon lays the most perfect little tiny eggs. Get rid of the mites and she will be your favorite in no time

Well- I treated her for mites, kept her quarantined for 30 days, and sorry to say... I just rehomed her. She was a sweet little thing, but I am really trying to stick to my policy of only hatching my own, or day olds from a hatchery. I just had a horrible experience with bringing some older birds into my flock a year ago, and I ended up having to cull them all because they were sick

She seemed healthy, and didn't give me a reason to believe otherwise but I have no idea what she could be a carrier of. Guess I'm a little paranoid. She went to a good home, though...with full disclosure of how she came to me.
