So what is everyone paying for their chicken food?

I know of two folks on here that used Layena and after their birds got a year old they were getting some soft shelled eggs ... the one person switched and the problem went away ....

Won't do Dumor, nasty crap and not good ratio for intake of feed and output of manure and stinks high heaven. Local feed mill, forget them too, same results as Dumor.

My birds have only had local feed mill food and they don't smell bad at all ... I do use ACV in their water ...

FRM layer feed is $13.50 a 50lb bag locally which is $2.50-$3.00 a bag cheaper than Layena.

Nearest actual feed mill to me where I could buy feed still cheaper is far enough away that most of the savings would be lost in the additional gas it would take to go get it to say nothing of the additional time.

$20 here for 50lbs of layer. If you want organic it will run you around $28 for 50lbs. Living on Martha's Vineyard everything is more expensive. Gas almost at $4.80 a gallon!

26.99 for a 50lb. bag of organic chick starter. I have had them 3 weeks and I'm only 1/2 way through the bag good deal I think

Some of the folks are hobbyists, some are "pet owners" and a few are more sustainable/homestead oriented and even fewer are commercially oriented. Thus, what someone is willing to pay for feed varies GREATLY among those different owners.

I think $17.75 per Hundred Pounds is high enough!!

I agree it's a matter of preference and what the overall outcome you wish to have . During the summer I sell herbs at the Farmer's market and try to educate people on how to eat healthier, and after my chicks get certified I can bring one along for the kids to pet, and show them how to incorporate herbs and chickens, and eating a better diet. So it was sorta a fundamental question I asked myself when I started, am I truly organic or not?
