There never was a healthcare law.

It is an insurance law. You are REQUIRED, by law to have insurance. Isn't that awesome? Don't you feel healthier? Imagine how cost will go down?

I wonder if there are any provisions requiring the insurance company to pay for what the doctor orders/prescribes?

Another law to feed the trial lawyers. I can see it now "the government made me buy it and now I am hooked on prescription drugs"

It seems that this topic really polarises public opinion, but I have found that it is always a mistake to believe that everyone sees things in the same way. This is self evident but the numerous views and opinions put forward here.

Would it not therefore be a good idea to hold a referendum on the subject? Rather than just a for or against vote, the voters could be given a selection of choices as to how to best fund the scheme. Would this not give everyone a voice?

Of course, everyone would have to abide by the majority decision because that is what a democracy does.

We are not a democracy. We are a representative republic. I don't trust decisions made by popular vote -- what is "popular" is not always "right." How would desegregation fare if put to a vote? What about giving women the right to vote -- how many men 100 years ago would say "yea" on that one?

Allowing public discussion would be a good thing, but ultimately, the decisions must be made by those elected to represent us. When I look around at my neighborhood, the idea of everyone having an equal say on such decisions is terrifying.

obama wants to work around congress with democratic governors in other words pass laws without our representative being allowed a say. this is also unconstitutional. he has also appointed czars who are unelected and represent no one but obama. unconstitutional. sheriff joe in arizona says that the birth records are forged. when does impeachment start?

Approaching 50% of the working people not paying income taxes coupled with the growing homeless and the 10% unemployed and the folks that just do not want to work for whatever reason having them vote on any issue concerning money is a bad juju.

right now votes are being bought with 'obama money'. if you are getting food stamps , welfare, government housing, and free cell phones you will probably vote democrat.

Well if sheriff Joe said it that's good enough for me! Come on, bringing up the "birther" conspiracy is awfully desperate don't you think?

Yes, it is, but why would using that tactic be surprising? Emotional responses against an opponent do not require fact-based reasoning or intelligent arguments. That the republican party continues to cater to those who make decisions this way will be to its own detriment, as the intelligent members of the non-affiliated independent voting population seek to further distance themselves from them. I think, in the future, the libertarians will rise to prominence and become more powerful, possibly becoming the outlet for those who lean conservative but also have a grasp on reality.
