So what's the SECOND broodiest breed?

I really prefer to hatch chicks the natural way.
I thought about getting silkies, but any birds I get would be intergrated into my current flock after proper introductions, if at all possible.
I can't imagine subjecting a poor little silkie to my 13 1/2 lb. roo.
So what's the second broodiest breed? I'm thinking standard cochins?

I have 13 LF brahma hens that wouldn't go broody if I offered them scratch and watermelon every day for the rest of their lives. Believe me, I've tried.

Try standard cochins. Personally my mixed flock includes several sikies, and they get along just fine. But, my birds consist of pretty laid back laying hens and a roo, plus ALOT of pullets that are yonger and lower on the pecking order than the silkies - that makes a difference I think. Good luck!

ETA: My LB roo frequents one of my small silkie girls on a regular basis. He is MUCH more gentle with her than his bigger girls. he has never hurt her and she never sqwuaks and carries on like the big girls. You would think he was killing them. With her he does the rooster dance, she submits, he mounts her gently, and does his thing. With his LB girls he HAS to man handle them to get his time in and they never submit to him like the silkie does, he has to grab them when he has an oppertunity, lol. I know it's probably controvercial because he "could" hurt her or some of the other small girls ( he has a few bantam girlfriends ) but he is a real gentleman with them. I am incubating some of my bantam LB cross eggs now!

SLW! I have a broody momma who was rehomed to my house recently. She just kept on going broody and her former mommy, Sue, said she'd just had it with her. She's been mothering our baby Silkie roo although I believe he has other motives.

I would have to say Cochins. Ours can cover alot of eggs with that fluffy butt. They aren't the best layers in the summer but that's when you would want them sitting anyway.

The second broodiest with out a doubt is Partridge Rocks. They have not had it breed out at all. If you do not belive me ask those that have raised them. Some have had all there hens go broody at the same time. There was another post like this a bit back and a few others lists PR also.

The older hen has hatched 2 clutches, the 1 yr old daughter is on her second round.......

So I know believe I have the granddaughter of the oldest hen.... Next year is gonna be fun!

Silkes? The broodiest? Oh, pish. My silkie did go broody once, but wasn't a good mother. My best broody is my Black Sumatra followed by my OEGBs, then my Yokohamas.
