I think even some not so 'liberated' people will say it's ok for a man to cry, but do they mean it? Unless it's a single tear, like the one on the cheek of the feathered Native American in the commercial, I'm not really to sure how it would actually go over in real life! So how did it go over in your experience?

Do you think men sometimes are too trained to 'keep it in' and might seem callous to a partner during times of tragedy? Is it better for some people to just hold it in, is that their way of getting through rough times? Should each person have their own way, or is one way healthier than another? What do you think?

I don't have a position, just interested in what others think, and what their experiences have been.

In 23 years I've seen him cry once. The day of his mothers' funeral.

I've never found him to be callous to me or anyone else in times of tradegy, but in his brain - real men don't cry.

My husband cried the day his momma died! He held it in for a long time when his daddy died but finally it hit him hard!
He also I was told ..cried the day our infant son died! He is more of a Man than any Man I know!

In 23 years I haven't cried much more than once. Never cried when someone close to me died. Female here. It's an individual thing. I can't remember anyone ever looking disgusted or teasing or anything ridiculous like that when seeing a man cry, either. Feelings are OK, period, not even something we actually have control over. The few times I've cried as an adult, I couldn't have controlled it.

A man should cry whenever he wants.
I have seen my husband tear up, never cry loudly. WHen his grandmother died, he cried, he was sad. He didnt bawl and become loud when crying.
He has teared up over our children, hAppy tears. (that counts right?)

We've been married almost 22 years and only a couple of times have I seen my DH cry-when he was carrying my father's casket to it's final resting place and the day of his father's funeral.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

In 11 and a half years, I have seen my hubby cry more than a few times. The day our son was born, when he thought he was going to loose me after that from complications, the day we found out we were having a girl and the day she was born, when he almost lost me again 5 months after our daughter was born, at the viewing and funeral for his grandmother, and when one of his best friends from high school died. I'm sure there have been more instances that I can't think of, but those are the big ones.
