So, You Think Winter in the U.S. Will Be Frigid or Warm?

I asked my favorite local meteorologist (who blogs) this question a couple of weeks ago. He said, "It'll depend on whether El Nino stays weak or gets into the medium-strong phase. I'm guessing weak...which would mean early cold and or snow (or both). Both 1951-52 (80" of snow before Christmas Day!) and 1976-77 (coldest winter in the last 100 years in G.R.) were weak El Ninos." The weather he is discussing is in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It snowed here this past year!!! Well, sprinkled snowed. It came down heavy at times for a few minutes. We all woke up and went and played in it...well, what little there was but it was so fun. It would melt as fast as it hit the ground. It only snows here once every 10 or so years....and usually not much but I remember when I was younger that it snowed several inches one year in March.

Id say colder than normal but i thought that last year and the year before that, and the year before that. ect. Sooner or later the law of averages has to take over. We bid have a cool spring this past spring in southern OK my tomatoe plants were close to month behind.

Old wife's tale in our part of the woods. the lower to the ground the spider webs are the colder the winter. This year they are on the lowest branches of the trees and also the golden rod is in full bloom which we don't usually get untill sept, but than again this has been the wettest in I think they said 100 years.June, we ran the A/C all the time, July, hunted up a blanket for a couple mornings. so who knows. me I love cold weather. so i vote colder marrie

It was the wettest July in 118 years here. I am afraid it is going to be a wild winter like the one the year before last. That winter was mild and pretty until Feb. When it got really warm, and then a tornado took out house that night and after the tornado it snowed. two days later we got a huge hailstorm that covered everything. Then in may we had the biggest snow I had ever seen here. Nearly 2 feet in ARKANSAS!!!! We normally only get maybe 6 inches. After that we started having torrential rains in the spring and had severe flooding! I AM NOT JOKING!! Our county was declared a disaster area a total of 5 times that year! Talk about wild weather-we've been getting it! That year we had things happen that I had never seen before and i have lived here since I was 9 years old and I am fixin' to be 28 now! Last winter was pretty normal, maybe a little colder. No bad weather though.

Frigid, always frigid here in NH. And it will only get 20 below zero when my husband goes on business trips to someplace warm and sunny. :-)

I'm sorry redhen, my daugther showed that to me the other day and I couldn't get it out of my mind, so I had to share it!
