Soap Makers Help!

WOW!!! That is sooo cool looking but there is no way DH would let me get one of those until I bring in enough money from my soap and by it myself. I like it

I know, it is a lot, but all but $50.00 will be paid for with soap profits, so I splurged. I can't wait to get it. I am the worst at cutting!

So true!

Looks like I'm not going to be able to go to the farmer's market Saturday. It is pouring here now. Supposed to keep it up all day tomorrow too.

Next Saturday will have to do. That's when they are having the maket at a local winery that afternoon. I'm so excited!

When do you start your market?

Does anyone make liquid soap? I just ordered 2 pounds of potassium hydoxide with my lye order to try my hand at liquid soaps. DH has been asking for some after I told him I could make liquid soaps.

ETA: I'm now over 500 posts! I think I more over run with soaps than chickens though, lol.

Congrats on your 500 posts, Morgaine! You're even less chatting than I am.

Congrats on the new cutter AND the beautiful soaps!

I'm with you, chiknwhisperer. I free-hand cut it. I just call 'em rustic handmade soaps and they look like it. People say they like the look of them that way so for now I'm saving the $$. It only takes me 10 minutes to cut 33 - 35 bars, so I'm OK with it for now.

Sigh. I just messed up a batch of soap. Yes, it'll turn out fine, but I didn't do what I planned to do and that's bugging the heck out of me. I just made my vanilla soap and had the plan of pulling some out, adding the fragrance to the pot, then swirling the two - EXCEPT that I FORGOT and just dumped the fragrance in without removing the part I wanted to remain white.

So, what I did was this. I quickly whipped up a 1 lb. batch of the same soap - it took me close to a half hour to do so - and poured it over the top of the vanilla soap. By this time, the soap in the mold was starting to thicken up quite a bit. I attempted to cut some of it in, but I doubt it went far so I just spread it on the top so that it has a small white layer on the top now.

Should I just leave it that way or should I sprinkle something like cinnamon on it to make it look like I intended this oddity?

I made a batch for my brother that are chunky free hands, but I am really bad at it. Seriously.

It takes me more than 5 minutes to cut 16 soaps and that's with the cutter dh made me. I'm that person who always has crooked pictures. I cannot make a strait line to save my life.

I think the time and stress saved will more than pay for it's self! I love the mini B&B cutter. I get 72 soaps in less than 3 minutes.

I think it will look good the way it is. Is it going to be like chiknwhisperer's layered soap or did I read that you scooped some out? You could cut it into chunks and make a confetti soap, but I would only do that if it didn't tun out.

No, I didn't cut any out, but I did try to run the knife through it to let some of the white seep down. It was just too thick so I doubt much if any got down there. I'll post pix tomorrow. It's only going to be a very thin amount on the top. I run 125 ounces of oil in a batch and this was only an addition of 16 ounces, so it's going to be a thin layer at best. I'm sure it will turn out, it just won't be as pretty as I had hoped.

In the meantime, this is the batch of Yuzu Japanese Grapefruit with poppy seeds and grapefruit peel that I cut yesterday:
