Soap Makers Help!

I tried putting the loofa into my square stand up mold and when I went to cut with a serrated knife, it didn't want to cut and my soap came out chunky with a trashy looking top/bottom....

I just put a little plastic wrap and a rubber band on the bottom of the cut loofa and then pour in the middle... You get the loofa on the outside and the soap on the inside...

When I make some this weekend, I'll post....

Morgaine: no package yet... hopefully today. My new pool liner came yesterday and the GUYS are putting it in today!!! I'll be swimming this weekend to get out of the heat!!!

I saw the other thread with all the listings for the different websites. But Im wanting to know which website you buy most of your materials from. Im just starting out and havent made my own batch yet. But I did go over to a friends and help her make soap. I live in Texas(if that helps) and the site she uses is the most is Majestic Mountain Sage. What are some other really good ones?

I can't believe it and I know my DH is going to give me such a hard time. I ordered BYC pass out cards lol.

OK, the places I go to order are not very many right now. I usually go to MMS or Camden-Grey and Kangaroo Blue. Other then that I don't have much money to work with and if I did I have a long list of places I would like to try.

Welcome to the thread, havi! hee hee. Another future soap addict!

Where you order has a lot to do with what you intend to do with your soap. If you're just making soap for your family or as gifts for family/friends, then you don't need to invest in large sizes of oils. But, if you intend on selling, you'll save a LOT of money by buying in bulk. For my bulk shopping for oils, I tend to use Columbus Foods/Soaper's Choice. Olive Oil I find at Costco.

Havi -- Welcome!! I agree with Backyardbuddies.

You can find coconut oil at Walmart, lye at ACE, and Olive Oil is cheap at GFC's if you have one around.....

EO's can be found at Whole Foods... a tad expensive but if you're only making small amounts or in a hurry it works.

Morgaine -- got the package and I LOVE the soap!! What's the scent.... Even DH like the smell... He was a bit leary of the green powder!! hee hee I'll be using it in a fresh Avacado soap this weekend.... yum!

Good I'm glad you liked it. It's a mix of BB's energy, lemongrass, orange, and mint eo's. I'll dig through my notes later and post the porportions later. How did you like the rose geranium?

Just make sure you read and make sure that it is 100% eo and is not diluted with a carrier oil like almond. But the pices are sooo high at places like that, it wouldn't be worth it to me.

I started the thread and I've orderd from a lot of places on there. Southern Garden scents has created a coupon code just for us here at BYC. You get 10% off your order. I just soaped their dagon's blood this morning

I love Sandalwood Ylang fom there. Code is BYC09

I would look and see who has what you want at the price you want and order fom there.

I I did OMH and Almond & Oatmeal this moning. I added the fo to the oils before hand and everything went fine. I used a 40% lye solution with the almond too. I'll keep trying out different ones to see how it goes.

Well it looks like my OMH started over heating. I have a good sized crack running down the middle. The onlything I did different was add the honey to the water before lye instead of to my oils as normal. I think I'll stick to adding it to the oils from now. Maybe when it gels I'll try to mush it back together.

Oh here are the porpotions
1/2 oz Energy fo from Bramble berry
1/4 oz each lemongrass & orange eo
and a drop of peppermint eo (didn't measure that)

So sorry to hear about your OMH, Morgaine? Did you get it to work?

Also, here's a picture of the soap I made the other day, the one I tried to swirl but it had thickened up too much to do so. The scent is Sanguigno Orange and Patchouli by The Scent Works.

Morgaine - What was the batch size? I usually do 5 or 10 pound batches.... The RG smells wonderful, can't wait to try it.

BYB - the swirl came out very nice... even if it wasn't like you had planned.

BB - the soap looks good.

Morgaine, how did the OMH soap turn out?

We went to the FM today. It was great - sunny, hot and a really good flow of people. They even put on live music so we got to hear some good musicians while we chatted up customers.
Here is a picture of the table and DS

He was such a help and he asked to design the table and kept it up after every sale, re-arranging and organizing everything.

Our first day went better than I thought it would. We sold $80 worth of soap - even sold out of Georgian Breeze, gave away a number of samples to those that showed serious interest in the soaps. We will probably do that again next week depending on how many are "new". The business association that puts of the FM had a photographer come around to take some pictures for the website, hopefully they will get used, and best thing to happen - there was an eco type retailer there promoting their free workshops and she wants to sell my soaps in her store there in town. She wants only the EO/natural coloured soaps and she wants me to give her a price on an all organic bar.
It was good thing DS was with me, there was just so many great vendors to buy from, I would have been broke. One vendor sells only cupcakes she makes from scratch, at the end of the day she had some left and she had her SO bring them over for DS to take home for his sleepover party tonight.
