Soap Makers Help!

I know I could never get straight cuts when I cut free style. I always had a bow to it no matter what I did. I wish I had known about the cheesse cutter when I first started! The tank is a big chunck of change but I make a lot of soap and it is great having a consistant size to sell. And it is so fast! I cut 55 bars in about 3 minutes!

Since I am just starting out, it wouldn't be something that I could do but someday

I hope to be making that much soap!! I am so totally hooked! I love the smells & all the different things I can do. I have a friend that has already come back for more (they were my test subjects) they said they never want to buy soap again!

When I made logs of soap, I used to be able to get straight cuts. But it took forever to cut one log. I figured out using a ruler and washing my knife between each cut helped a lot. The drag from the residue of the soap on the knife made each cut off. If the knife was clean and a little wet, it slides right through evenly.

The tank is an awesome tool. I prefer my wooden slab molds though, they look like this . You line them with parchment paper or butcher paper. When the soap has set you use the knife to cut the slab using the slats as a guide. Cuts right through the paper too. Then you lift the whole, cut slab out of the mold and VIOLA! Evenly cut bars of soap with out an extra piece of equipment. The molds themselves where not expensive either.

Wow I like both of those!!! Where did you guys buy them???

edit to add that I figured out where u got the first one.....really good price compared to some I have looked at.

I should clarify I didn't buy my molds at the business I linked to. That was just an example of what they look like without having to haul them out a take a pick. 'Cause I'm lazy.

I purchased mine from Colorado Organics, but they're no longer in business.

I've also seen slab molds lined with silicone that also come with HDPE (type of plastic) dividers that you push down into your raw soap. The soap pop right out after the cure. Creates perfect bars without having to cut.
