Soap Makers Help!

About micas....do they tend to hold up to cp soap? I just used some pink pearly stuff, but in the mold my swirls seem to have turned more tan than pink. Hoping it's just the ash layer....but not confident.

It depends on what the mica is colored with. Some morph into different colors and some fade completly. I have had good results with micas, but they were ones made for CP soap. Try tkbtrading.com their pop micas have been great to deal with. Only one that morphs I think is the strawberry pop. I know it tells you on the site. Brambleberry also has a very nice selcetion of micas for cp.

Thanks. I got these from Camden Grey. Although while in the mold, my swirls looked grayish tan, it was from the ash. I cut the bars this morning and they're very purple swirls. I was going for pink swirls, but purple works. I think I added too much:/

The last few times I've poured lye, the static in the air has caused little lye crystals to fly out of the bottle and stick to the outside of it as well as the counter and my hands. Any hints to prevent this?

A dryer sheets works, but it is best to put a bit more moisture in the air!

Living with wood heat, we know about dry, static air. We keep the humidifier going 24/7 plus a pot of water on top of the wood stove. Drink plenty of water!

I live in Texas, lol, it's not often we don't have moisture in the air.

What mica did you get from Camden Grey RockyTogg? My mom and I made soap yeasterday with some dark blue mica from Camden grey and it totally disappeared on us. I haven't ever bought mica from there, do they not tell you that it changes and morphs?

I made my fourth batch of soap yesterday, and my first batch of goats milk soap. It came out lovely!

I still need to work on getting my bars smooth but the soap itself is looking really good and I was able to get the bars out of the molds better this time. I put a little crisco on the molds and everything popped right out. I think I got a more thoroughly mixed trace this time. The color came out a nice pale caramel, it looks like fudge!

I love how the milk made it come out! I got some of the raw soap on my hands and it seemed very mild already when I went to wash it off. Overall I'm very pleased with my soap making venture. I tried coating some loofahs with this batch for my hubby. They don't look that attractive but he is excited for them to cure so he can try them. Cutting loofahs is really hard however, next time I will cut it before putting the soap on it.

I bought blue, rose and magenta sparlke micas.I've never bought them before, didn't know there were different types:/

My color held up fine. It was the ash layer that made it look like it turned grey, but when I sliced it I saw the purple swirls:)
