all of my soaps and I can't really tell the difference between any of them. I'm not feeling a burn or any such thing, just a soapy taste.

Maybe I need to start

- ing the commercial soaps to see if I can tell the difference.

The fragrance oil I used for that batch was the Sweetcakes Almond FO. I used 120 oz. of oils, with 3 of those being Avocado Oil at trace. I only used 2 oz. of FO for that batch. 28 oz. of water and 14 oz. of the goat's milk, with the milk added after the lye/water had cooled down some. (Recommended liquid 30 - 45 oz)

The recipe I used is exactly the same recipe I used for the Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey, except in that one I used all goat's milk and added the honey. As far as technique, I did set the almond batch outside for a bit to cool it down. Still, it was only in the low-60s, so I'm not sure whether that would be it or not.

I'll take pix tomorrow and post them for you to see.

Thanks!

How fun Redhead! They look great! I love the greenish look. How did you do that?

I wonder if there are other plastics that could be used instead of plastic wrap to keep the ash away but not add the wrinkles. Like, for instance, when I was at Target a couple of weeks ago, they had silicone liners for use on baking pans. Since you can use those IN molds, could you use them ON molds?

That's a great idea!! I think I will get one & see, afterall, it should release just fine. I wonder if it would transfer any color ~ are there any that are uncolored?

As to that greenish tint ~ I used a concoction ~ lol ~

3 oz BOILING hot water to steep
3 bags of stash green tea, one of which I cut open & added, the other two I left in the bags
1/8 teaspoon yellow icing powder
1/4 + ( sorta heaping) tsp green icing powder

After steeping the tea for about 15 minutes, & gooshing out the excess water, I added the icing powders & stirred well to blend. Then I added the whole concoction at trace along with the fragrance oil.

Do any of you add glycerin at trace? I do and it makes it even smoother.

I made the mistake of adding my milk before the water/lye and I have gold. It will be interesting when it dries. I took a small batch out and colored it purple and put in the molds first then poured the other. It should be very interesting.

The liners I found were in the dollar section and came in red and a powder blue color. Of the two, the powder blue would seem the safer bet to not transfer color. I've noticed from Ninja's mold pictures that her silicone liners are brick colored and if she's had any problem with the colors, she's not yet said. Ninja?

Thanks for the green explanation! So, the specks I'm seeing in your soap is from the green tea bag that you opened?

yes ~ I love adding goodies ~ lol ~ but this batch I did tonight, I decided maybe I should just leave plain, lol, just in case some folks don't like all the add-ins that I do.

Has anyone ever heard of Bath Junkie? I googled them, but have never visited a store or anything ~ does anyone know if their scents are good? Thanks!!

Avocado Oil has a higher rate of unsaponifiables...but was not your base oils rather your superfatting at trace...so maybe it was the avocado oil?? And if it is avocado oil...definitely no worries....that is great for sensitive skin. I'm interested to see your pictures. Different fragrance oils and essential oils do different things to your soap batches...some good some bad. I usually start troubleshooting with my fragrance/essentail oils...was your almond oil from sweet cakes a fragrance or essential oil?

I was just thinking about those SILPAT baking mats...cutting them length wise to fit the top of my mold. I've got a friend in the restaurant industry who purchases his for chocolate making...they are HUGE. I'll have to inquire if I can purchase one...the problem with those upright loaf molds is that the soap is extremely hard to UNMOLD....EVEN with their handy plunger!!

I'm making WHIPPED Cold process soap today! I'll post pictures of my alcohol spritzed soda ash tops before and after shots...they look shiny on the tops; AND my whipped soap.

HEY...I LOVE THE taste of my soap!!

Yes, the avocado oil was only done at trace - and only 3 ounces of the 120 ounces of oil. That was exactly the same that I did with the OMH batch - same recipe exactly except that OMH used all goat's milk and had the honey whereas OMA had no honey and only 1/3 milk and 2/3 water.

Both batches used FOs from Sweetcakes.
OMH used the OMH FO at 3.5 oz./120 ounces of oil.
OMA used the almond FO at 2 oz./120 ounces of oil.

Here's a picture of the Oatmeal, Milk, and Almond batch:

See anything odd about it?

So, do you regularly snack on your soaps, cheeptrick?

Shall we expect to be seeing that on your menu on the Hey Grandpa thread?
