Soap Makers Help!

Quote:
I've just read the ingredients from bramble berries site. I'm not even sure I would know what the detergents were listed as, I just saw that it had sodium hydroxide on there.

List of ingredients for the clear melt and pour base.
Glycerine, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Lauric Acid, Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sorbitol, Triethanolamine, Sodium Chloride, EDTA

Bolded is the cold process soap.

Underlined is the detergent

Sorbitol is sugar, sodium chloride is salt, lauric acid is a fatty acid, glycerin is a byproduct of saponification, don't know off hand what triethanolamine is, suspect it is an alcohol

welcome.. sorry we have your neck sore>..

I am thinking that just buying the melt and pour glycerin soap defeats the purpose?? I would really not be making anything just reshaping.. but ... pics of those bars that I posted seem to have colored soap mixed with glycerin..

Sorry Need to hijack the thread again. I have 8 oz of goat milk I need to use before it goes bad, I only have another pint in the freezer and its going to be at least 4-6 weeks before I will have a lactating doe to milk again. want to make a batch of goat milk soap. Need lye calculation. The oils I have available are 4 oz of Coconut Oil and unlimitted Lard. Need to know how much lye and Oil and lard to put in, If someone can calculate for me real quick...

BTW I made the last batch that MissPrissy helped me with earlier..Seems to be turning out good.

Thanks!

MP and NP, how big are your average batches that you make? I'm just wondering becasue I do want to stockpile so that I will have plenty for the local things going on around here and one of my son's school counslers said that I could sell it in the teacher's lounge as well. I want to make more at one time then what I have been doing. Thanks so mauch ladies

I entered the 4 oz of coconut oil. and I started with 8 oz of lard to see how much liquid would need to be added.. no enough to get to 8 oz.. so i just started going up in incraments of 2oz of lard to get to 8 in the liquid.. This was using no water and only goat milk.. I have read on here lots of times that only milk is hard you have to add the lye real slow and keep the temperature down.. But here is my final results.

4 oz coconut oil
17.1 oz lard

8.017 oz water or milk
2.99 oz of lye

just play around with the soap calc and see if you can run it.

I mix my batches usually in 100 ounce oil measures. It is easier for me to work with and I can get it up and out of the way quickly with a small child in and out and around at all times.

Back when I didn't have to worry about little hands I would do 200 - 300 ounces of oil batches.

Thanks! I'm probably going to do this this morning. I need to build me some more molds. Last night I did a new thing, I found a simple simple recipe for Goat milk Glycerine soap.. I had a whole bag of glycerine that I havent used, you just melt a 1lb of Glycerine for every 3/4 to one cup of GOat milk. Add the milk to the liquid melted gylcerine, combine thouroughly, add color or scent and pour into mold..I also added oatmeal for texture, seems to be turning out fine..It was a fun thing to do that was quick and easy, plus i have some teenagers in my family that like glycerine soap so they will enjoy it for christmas.
