Soap Makers Help!

Welcome NanaKat! We also have a soap swap thread if you're interested.

I am going to do plain old fashion unscented, no holds barred, nothing but the lard and lye soap today.

There are a couple of pics of what my son calls Yodas death. I thought he had said Yoda's puke yesterday but it was actually what he thinks Yoda looks like when he dies on lego star wars. Go figure

Anyway there it is. It smells great and looks far from great but I know there are people that will buy it and love it.

They are 3-D lol. I poured the colors when the trace was to thick and they mostly stayed on top. It has a cool feeling when you run your hand across it though. Lets put it this way. I have learned a ton from this batch. So I guess thats the good part. I just hope they sell alright. I like how bright the colors are. On that one part I got it right lol

CW, I think they look great!

If you pour too thick (or FO has accelerated batch), just blob the color on top and take a butter knife held slanted to swirl.

OR, drop blobs symetrically, then gently pull out on the color to make designs on top of the soap.

Round blobs become hearts if skewer ran from top to botton of blob.

Don't you love how the dividers pull the color down the sides of the soaps!!

chiknwhisperer- I think they look great as well and bet they will sell just fine. What did you scent them with? Your hubby will change his tune about the soap stuff once you start selling more.

cockadoodlemom- Those look wonderful! What did you use for the color? Those are the soaps for the swap? Can't wait to try 'em!

MissPrissy-What do you use the lard soap for? I've read that 100% lard makes a good stain stick for the laundry. I haven't used lard yet cause I've read that you can get a piggy smell if you are not careful when you heat them. I'm hoping to try some from the swap that have lard in them to see how it does in soap.

NanaKat And rkhyland Welcome!

Morgaine, I like a 100% coconut or PK for a stain stick better than lard.

Lard makes a very mild facial soap. And yes, you don't want to heat any oil, especially Animal Oils, too hot.

All my soaps have lard in them. I actually wouldn't make soap without using lard, well, except for the 100% OO soap

I do a few without it. Vegan and Vegetarians want nice soaps too. LOL

I also will replace beeswax with carnuba oil for some recipes too.
