Soap Makers Help!

It is made with preserved cottonseed oil. Yes, the left is lemon zest. The zest never stays yellow.

How about adding some calendula petals? They stay nice and yellow and would compliment the darker color of the zest.

Well, I just had an idea. Since Hubby likes the way the sprite soap smell, I've decided to cut two bars in half and everyone gets a half of two soaps. I just finished cutting the Lavender and Rosemary salt bars and Grandma's Kitchen in half. I hope that is ok with everyone.

Do you have a health food store around? I was able to get a ziplock baggie full for less than a dollar in the bulk bins. It was a lot of petals. But I totally agree that it is so easy to get carried away with all hte additives.

I know this isn't helpful at the moment, but for future planning why not plant some calendula in your garden? It is supposed to be one of the easiest flowers to grow by seed and it easily reseeds itself once planted.

Ohh, great Idea! I was already planning on growing lavender. The only downside I could see if someone has a lot of allergies.

I do have plans to add several hings to my gardens this year. It just doesn't help me now! LOL

We have on tiny little place here and they rarely have anything I want. I would have to order it online.

Yeah it is def not worth it to order it online. Shipping alone is killer and I don't know what I would do with a whole pound worth of petals.

MP...I struggle with this also...I have found that sprinkling a little on TOP of the bar prevents the additives from burning in the gel. You could also rebatch the zest into the soap and it does not turn then. Also preventing the gel helps...but lately I've been gelling quite a bit! I LOVE calendula petals on top of the bars...it looks absolutely lovely!

CUT the sprinkled loaves UPSIDE down though...if you cut thru the sprinkles on top it leaves lines in the soap as the knife is drug to the bottom of the loaf. I turn it upside down and cut from the bare bottom. It is very pretty....but go liberally with the sprinkles....they can clog a tub. (-;

I've never used lemon zest...I did a dried blood orange spiral peel in the tops one time...very pretty.
