Soap Makers Help!

Wednesday I have a meeting with the owner of the health food store in College station about carrying my soaps in her shop. Fingers Crossed! I'm going to bring samples of all my soaps as well as my packaging and ingredients list and I also have a list of a couple of people who have been using them who are willing to recommend me. Does anyone have the insurance for liability? I know I can get in through the soap makers guild but was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations.

Keep ONE store at first...so you do not get overwhelmed...and keep on top of the product. I sell at a store, online, and at shows. I kept SELLING out of the internet stock...and could not keep up. I stopped marketing the site...and it was easier. Now I just make it for the shows and the farm stand and gift shop. Easier and I make WHAT I feel like....and they do not really care what fragrances etc...which is nice.....and I tell the store associates to tell folks that want to buy the same fragrance to do a custom order.
AND do try NOT to please everyone...it gets silly after awhile...for those folks who have lots of requests....I recommend they start learning the craft!!

I grew up near College Station

Morgaine,
I hope things go well. You need to think about doing a cool maroon and white swirl!

I'm in!

The owner is buying 18 bars to see how they sell and if they do well will be buying more each month at wholesale prices. I just can't believe it! And then I went to Sam's to get more olive oil, and they said my card had been deleted I had to go to customer severice and I went ahead and opened an account in my soap company name and the lady asked if I had any soap with me. And because I had taken bars of each soap with me to show the health food store owner, I told her I did and she bought 9 bars from me! I sold $78 today!

Folks will think you are a soap vending machine....HEY....that sounds like a good idea...a coldprocess soap vending machine!! LOL I always keep soap in the car...to hook a new customer.
Congratulations.....hold on to this feeling....it keeps you motivated.

DH took a crate of soap to work today...sold about the same amount in 3 hours!! (-:

Yeah, I think I'm going to go invest in a bigger purse to carry around samples and bars. I also handed out some business cards. I'm going to take my money and open a business account tomorrow.

That is awesome about your dh selling your soap. Does he do that often?

Congrats Morgaine! I think thats a great idea about keeping soap in your purse lol. I might just have to use that idea lol. When people find out about me making soap they always ask questions. That would be a great way to get clients. I am very happy for you

I've read about one lady who always left a sample and business card with her tip when ever she ate out. I might have to try that to get my name out there too.
