Soap Makers Help!

Would it be hard to use the shampoo if you have long hair though?
I like the idea of the seperate thread for recipes. Except now that I'm getting a little better at this I'm not sure what my favorite recipe would be.

I like the idea of a recipe thread as well. While I realize that some of you who are selling may not wish to give away things that you've worked on for years, I hope that there is some level in which you can participate - especially with some of these new great ideas that have come up recently. I notice that we're staring to branch out and try new things and I'm excited to learn more about this. Since my goal is to sell locally to support our garden, I don't really mind sharing what I'm up to, especially if you guys are willing to help me tweak it further. Since mine is a group project, I have a built in supply of people who buy and then share with their friends. The ones that sell the best are the ones that other people actually helped me make because people love saying, "I made this!" I have a feeling that all 30 bars of the Lemon Verbena are already spoken for!

I definitely do not mind sharing recipes...I would have shared the shampoo bar recipe but I had already typed it once in an pm to MP...but when I went back to look in my sent folder it was not saved??

I was too tired to retype it...I only checked my pm not the thread~

MP...if you still have the pm....you are more than welcome to post the recipe here. The one I posted is from Cavitch's book...I do tweek this a little...with the vitamin E or B...the goal is not necessarily harder it is a good lather and the high castor oil is definitely the key ingredient. And this recipe lathered in the hair very nice...

In my test trials...my 'curly' hair did well...but I still like the liquid shampoo better because the bar was cumbersome to me....and I have very long curly hair. I still needed conditioner...because I have curly hair and cannot get around NOT using it. So with my naturally curly hair...this shampoo bar did OK...but did not sell me enough to switch completely over. BUT I did notice my itchy scalp was less...so I opted for alternating the shampoo. DH loved it...thought it was less messy and enjoyed the way his hair looked and I must say his fine straight hair did well with it...not any more or less shine....but was nice to look like (although he is always nice to look at

I was assuming the shampoo beer bar had a higher PH because the lye was heavy in the recipe...but really

I am going to try the beer bar with atweak then post it.

Has anyone used beet juice for color? I am curious if it keeps its tint or turns black is brown? Anyone?

I'm guessing that it wouldn't keep its color. I did a bunch of research a while back to see what sorts of natural additives would hold a dark pinkish color in CP soap. The only thing that I came up with that would be consistently pink is pink clay. I got pretty excited about the idea of beetroot powder, but alas, I found sites that say that it discolors toward a gray or yellow when added to CP soap. It was suggested that it'd hold in a rebatch.

I did recently read that either red or white wine would take on a pinkish tone. Anyone try that?

I think I might try the wine. I really want to only use food products as additives in the soaps. I have never done a lot with colors but some very basic things and wonder what would make a really nice purple/pink.

I have some pomegranite juice - what do you think of that as color?

I like that as a color

I unmolded my soap I made yesterday. It smells geat. Nice and yummy. I'll post pics in a little bit. I'm still feeling like crap. I teach sunday school and if I don't feel better later this evening I have to find someone to sub for me so I don't get anyones kids sick. I really wanted to make another batch but I don't think I will.
