Soap Makers Help!

The bottom layer is just plain ole lard, olive oil, and coconut with strawberry FO. The top I used rose water, olive oil, coconut oil, and mango oil with raspberry FO. The color is far from what I wanted

I'll be giving the rose water another shot this week. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed with using the mango butter since I've never used it before. But all in all I kinda like them. They smell great at least even if I didn't get the color right. They smell really yummy lol I think its the best smelling soap I've made so far. I sent DH to work with one of the felted soaps I made the other day so that I can use him as a test subject lol.

The color is beautiful chicknwhisper...I love the layered look.

MP there is a whole debate on beet juice buried in the thread. Beet juice only gives you 'natural' brownish redish...not the primary color you desire. Plus your juice soaps will fade with time...I have used beet juice with success but I was not expecting to retain the color. I have never gotten yellow from my beet juice when I incorporated it in the at trace.

The juices that retain their color are carrot, apple cider, orange, tomato. During the lye phase though you must expect that the juice will change colors...but in final cure of the product it changes...may be lighter or darker depending on the cure and gel.

Thanks for the info. I know all the others and have used them but I had fresh beets and was thinking how gorgeous the color was and I had never tried it before.

I am fairly experimental but I have tried not to waste batches of soap that may or may not look like vomit or worse colored them. LOL

LOL You just gave me a great idea for Halloween soap!!

Vomit!! LOL

DD panned for gold yesterday and found a few flakes at a local spot...we are headed back...we took the flakes into the local panning shop and they said YEP that is gold!! I should be soaping...but we have serious gold fever!!

I absolutely love your soaps! Gorgeous!

Hubby started his vacation this week, so not sure how much I will be on, but I think a recipe thread would be cool. I don't mind sharing recipes I've collected. I'm still some what new to soaping too and know how it is to have a recipe that you know is tried. Although I really love playing around on soap calc tweaking recipes.

Vomit!! LOL

Someone on a forum has one for kids called Monkey Farts that smells like bananas and coconut. I know my ds laughed his head off when I told him about that one. Hope you have fun mining!

I picked up some rose hips and I'm going to infuse them in some oils. I hope to get a light pink from them.

I just made another batch and would love your help in naming it.

I blended several fragrances - rose, plumeria, lavender, and lemon verbena, aiming for a bit of a floral garden scent that didn't pick up a single flower but more of a blend.

I colored it with turmeric. It is going to be darker than my last batch (plumeria scented, colored with calendula/turmeric) that came out a light buttery yellow. This one looks like it's going to pick up a darker color - almost light orange, although I'm hoping it will fade a bit.

Oh, and this is interesting. Have any of you used turmeric for coloring? Why is it that after the batch is poured and you put the pan into the water to soak, that the remnants of the soap in the pan turn the water pink? Obviously it's some kind of reaction, but I'm wondering if there's a way to capture that reaction and turn the soap pink rather than yellowish.

I'd love a soap making thread for receipes... I'm sooo new and need all the help I can get....

I use goat's milk since I have a good supply right now... do you think a beer and goat's milk soap would be good for hair???

It sounds like a good combination. I'm thinking that I might want to try a shampoo bar but I'm not sure because of how curly my hair is it might get even more tangled then usual.
