Soap Makers Help!

Quote:
I made the bottom layer and scented that and then while that one was setting up in the mold I started making the next batch so that by the time the first one setup I would be ready to add the next layer.

I make 1 batch plain ol soap...separate and scent each with two different scents color if necessary. I always for some reason put the exfoliant in the bottom layer...not for any given reason...just because I cannot wait to add stuff here and there. Then I wait 24 hours (soap does not gel...too thin a layer) and then I make up another batch separate and scent and pour over the tops of the curing soap loaf. IT works for me...I've even used melt and pour glycerine in the center...in btw cp layers. It came out very lovely...this one will sell well.

I have not soaped in a month...got to get busy!

What do you all think of this?

It is for my sister. She has just moved into an apartment so I thought I'd throw a basket together for her mainly of what soaps I have ready or are close to being ready.

eta: Close up before I wrapped it...

Nice! I bet she will love it.

I think I'll make 3 batches, just get it done, I've put it off enough. I've been cleaning and organizing, we bought more shelves yesterday and now I've got more than enough room for everything. It is amazing how fast the soap takes over every flat place!

I pulled up a large aloe vera plant. Can I just purée the insides and use that as my liquid or does the lye do something weird to it.

Morgaine, when I make vanilla I use vanilla eo that is really strong and dark. It gives a nice natural tan color to the soap. You ca also add a bit of cinnamon to help the color along and add some interesting speckles.

Breconbcs, though the basket is lovely, you really should go ALL out for her and do something more elaborate. This IS your wonderful sister we are discussing. Care enough to send the very best!

I am sure that since you won't be needing that basket (can't have too much stuff cluttering your home) AND since you were unable to participate in our swap, we'll take it off your hands and give you free feedback--what a deal!! Your sister will love you for it--the bigger basket that is.
