Soap Makers Help!

Oh, I would have done this with that spiced mahogany, but I too was cooking dinner at the time and couldn't use the oven.

Shelly, I would use the 2 capfulls or 1/4 tsp for 6-8 #'s of oils. I do 4 #'s and for mine I add 1, though I have used 2 and it is just a little darker mint green. 3-5 capfuls is what I use for darker ones like the moroccan mint or cucumber melon.

Ok ladies, sorry I haven't been on in a few days things have been busy. I really haven't had much time to sit down. Here are the scents I ordered.
Lime EO
Lavender EO
Autumn Afternoon FO
Peppermint EO
Patchouly FO

I wanted to get more EOs but funds are tight all the way around. I also finally listened to my DH and changed the business name before anyone really has had the time to get hooked on the soaps and come looking for me by the business name lol. So I'm in the process of labeling everything over for tomorrows FM. The only thing that will not be done is the sign. I have vinyl sign and I need to see if the lady that made it for me is willing to change it up.

Where did you order from? Your Autum Afternoon intrigues me! I like the lime eo, smells like the green popsicles! I got an ounce from BB to try MLF Pepper Zest blend.

The Chia tea was a bust. When I cut it last night, I had these really hard orange bits that were weeping lye. I don't know where those came from. Sigh, I was really hoping that it had worked, that was the last of that fo. I took pictures.

I wonder if your chlorophyll is stronger than mine. In all, I used probably 3 or 3.5 teaspoons of the stuff. It's still a bit too warm to cut, so I'll do so a little later and take some pix.

Hubby is taking the kids to Disneyland today and I'm staying home to work and soap. If all goes well, I'll get a couple of batches done today. I'm still on that push for the festival in Oct.

Disneyland! We went in '07 and it was just as much fun as when I was a kid. Space Mountain at Disneyland is so much better than Disneyworld.

Is yours a powder of liquid? That does seem like a lot to use.

Oh wow! That's some really funky looking stuff, Morgaine! What made the bar that dark of a color?

So, you're certain you can't do a rebatch out of it?

I colored it with cocoa powder to get that really dark color. But yeah it is funky looking. If the orange bits were soft like the soap I would try to rebatch it, but htey are quite hard and brittle. I don't know that it would melt. I guess I can try later. Right now I'm too busy building up stock for a couple of fall shows I'm going to do.

D-land is fun! We don't go often because it's so stinkin' expensive, not just for the tix, but for all the parking, food, etc. But, someone gifted us with 3 free day passes so they're going to be off and having fun for the day. We were just there in May so this gives them a chance to just see anything they missed the last time without much pressure to do it all. Space Mountain is my daughter's fav. too. I'm sure she'll do that a few times.

The chlorophyll is a liquid. I know you're supposed to get much stronger color out of the powder.

I'll be curious to know what you end up doing with the Chai Tea batch. The reason I asked about the color is because I know that Chai Tea is a spiced tea. I've read some interesting soaping stories about clove, so I wondered if that was in there to cause the difficulties.

Yes, there is a cinnamony scent to it, so I should ahve known better. last time I soaped it, no problem, though I didn't use that strong of a solution or warm of temp. I really should ahve known better, but I wanted to hurry so I could hitch a ride with MIL to town. I'm putting it away and will deal with it later.

I'm doing Rosemary Mint, Sandalwood Ylang, and Dragon's Blood in a little bit and then tonight I'll do 2 Black Raspberry Cream and 1 Yuzu Gapefruit. I need to clear out my curing rack and move soaps into bags and boxes. I need to do some labeling tonight too.

I have just 6 scents left to take to this weekends markets, but next week I'll close to 14.

I ordered from MMS. The Autumn Afternoon smells good. I thought it would be differet smelling then what it is but I don't know why I thought that. It has a sweet smell to it but I like it.
I'm sorry that batch didn't turn out. It looked interesting thats for sure lol. I don't ean to laugh but at least it isn't as bad looking as one of my rebatches. Now that one was UGLY. You can Insederat I showed her a pick and she agreed lol.

It goes to show, Morgaine, that when we try to rush, mistakes can happen. Both you and I learned that this week, didn't we?

Didn't you say that both you and hubby were doing separate swaps this week? And, you only have 6 scents? I hope that you have enough of each!

chiknwhisperer - That sounds like an interesting scent. Does it have any identifiable notes? I'll have to check it out. I get a lot of my ideas from the scent review board. Since people give their honest opinions about certain scents, not only what they like but what has sold well (or not) for them, I use those reviews to determine what I think would work best for me.

I just finished soaping the Energy. Very interesting scent. I like it quite a bit so far, but then I generally like citrus scents anyway and they tend to sell well here in So. Cal. What I really wanted to do with the colors is to find a natural way to swirl yellow and orange to play up the citrus notes in the scent. The closest recommendation I could find for a natural orange that wasn't too earthy looking (like you'd get from carrot or pumpkin) was turmeric highlighted with a bit of paprika. I combined the spices with some almond oil, nuked it, then let it sit for a bit. The spices all settled to the bottom of the mug, so I poured out the filtered part into another mug to measure.

Right now it is a nice pale orange the color of a creamsicle. I doubt it'll hold that way, but I am really curious to see what it DOES come out like. I'll post pix tomorrow.
