My new molds worked great!! I did Apple Jack in a jello mold that made little cars the size of hot wheels, I thought the kids would get a kick out of it.

I'm a Geller. My soaps are made with only Real Milk (i.e. Jersey) full of the nommy cream! When I soap, I try to do 24-40 lb at a time (2-4 molds). I stack these and wrap with thick wool blankets. since the molds are slab, I want to make sure the gel reaches every corner. The wool blankets keep the heat in longer. I made 32 lb yesterday morning and they are still hot this morning.
Why gel? Less chance of ash, soaps cure faster. And hey! The chemical reaction of saponification generates heat ... why try to stop it?
For some fo that go really dark brown, you can use a vanilla stablizer
Morgaine, I that that only worked with MP soaps. Is there someting new out for CP/HP soaps?
With my goat milk soap it gets too hot if I insulate and ends up cracking right up the middle like a loaf of bread. I actually warped the bottom of one of my molds once:/ So I leave it covered with just the thin wooden sheet that they called a cover. No blankets or anything. It still gels to the corners and I remove the cover when it does so it will cool.

Loaf mold? It's one of the reasons I use slab molds. When i use my 4-chamber vertical log mold, I don't insulate because I get the crack at the very top also.
I have a small slab mold and a large vertical slab...kinda mold. I haven't used the large one yet...but it's as wide as my loaf molds, so I assume I'd have even more heat.

My vertical mold is from FCS. I love it for selling to stores that want to cut their own soap. But I have to be careful with the insulation of it. I use different types of insulation depending on how many of the 4 cavities are filles and how much soap is in them.
My loaf molds fit my cutter, so I use them
I've used Rita Richard's Kelsei molds since 2002. I'm a terrible cutter!! With my Kelsei (2) 42-bar & (3) 30-bar molds, I don't have to worry about cutting. And I love the swirls I can do in the slab mold.
I haven't used it, but I know Kitn on the Dish has with really good results. Here is her thread.
Oh Morgaine! Are you trying to push me into the Dish again? I always end up in trouble from other long time members .... Hmmmm, sounds like fun! LOL!
