Soap Makers Help!

I will not use anything but silicone now! LOVE the silicone molds my Dh made me

I have some arylic ones too from Logan Bear Candles, but will only use them if I have to really make a lot of soap in a short time because they are much harder to get out of the mold without sticking.

Your soap looks beautiful!! Tumeric will hold its color for a couple months without fading if you keep it out of the sun. I think it looks perfect the way it is though!

Would love to have a silicone mold, even a liner for the Kelsey, it is hard to slide the soap off. The orange-ish color of the soap comes from the palm oil, I wasn't sure if the lye would change it to white or not. Posted a picture after removing the soap from the mold, post # 1776.

Morgaine! How did your dh make your silicone molds? Would love to know! My dh can do just about anything if he has access to the materials. He is a carpenter by trade. I lined the wooden loaf type mold he made me with freezer paper. I don't think I will have to change it too often. It came out so smoothly. It was a little bit of a hassle applying the paper though, but was pleased with the outcome.

My Dh owns a urethane shop with his dad so he was easily able to make it there. You can get some silicone from Smoothon.com. The hard part is making the master mold. Dh made the master mold out of aluminum and machined it to the size I wanted and then mixed, degassed and poured the silicone over it.

The soap just falls out the mold, I love it! I only have sticking issues if I don't wait long enough and I used full water so it is a little softer than my normal 45% lye solution. But I tend to get inpatient and unmold to soon at times. If I do full water I do it at night so I don't mess with it and it is ready in the morning.

Someday I hope to have him making the molds to sell

His shop is built and we are waiting on power to be hooked up so we will see.

Thats awesome Morgaine! I will check out that site. Thank You! My Dh, Ds, & Dsil worked for a company in houston a couple of years ago for a company that made and used silicone molds and they know how they did it so maybe I can get them to make some for me if the material is not to expensive. Have you ever used honeysuckle in your soaps? I have lots and lots of it growing all around me. One of my good friends wants me to make her some hs soap as it is her fav fragrance. I was thinking of infusing it in oil. What do you think? I haven't seen any hs eo's on any of the sites I have been on.

HELP!!! I just finished a small batch of soap & while making my notes I saw that I FORGOT to add my olive oil.
what should I do--take it out of the mold & add the oil or wait & see what it does? I can't believe I am so dumb!! I used almond oil, avacado oil, palm oil, coconut oil, castor oil & shea butter. I just poured it about 30 minutes ago. Can someone please tell me what to do?

Gee..I haven't ever done that... (yet). How much oil are you lacking? I'm not sure, but I would assume you could rebatch and add the Olive oil now... I know you can do it later. I would dump it into a pot and add the warm OO mix it up real good. It probably won't be the same consistancy of a typical batch...maybe more like a "milled" batch?? Again....I'm just guessing...never had that happen. I've only rebatched once and it was after several days. An overheated milk and honey:/

It was 6 oz of olive oil to a total of 41 oz of oil-small batch-but still....I did heat the oil & added it to my soap & have been stirring & stirring but its very thick & dry looking now. Should I heat it in the crock pot then repour do you think? I just can't believe I did this.

I'm not even close to an expert as I only have 2 batches under my belt, But I think if it were me I would go ahead and reheat it a little to better incorporate the oils. What have you got to lose?

At least that is how I would look at it. This sounds like something I would do, so I'm going to keep an eye out to see what the experts have to say.

I'm on my phone so this will brief. Yes you do need to heat it. Go to millersoaps.com and read her trouble shooting page and about rebatching. You can save the soap. It might not be pretty but should be usable.
