soap making ?'s

here is a link with 10 recipes and tips below it from posters with alot of helpful info i just found. http://tipnut.com/10-homemade-laundry-soap-detergent-recipes/

i checked the oxy tub i have and it has washing soda(sodium carbonate)and sodium percarbonate(i belive this is washing soda x hydregion peroxide). so yes oxy clean can substatute the washing soda if u need it and can't find it. the washing soda on ebay is anywhere from like like $7 to $10 a box shipped for about a 55 oz box, the one site i saw it on said if bought locally it is about $3.40 a box. i still haven't been able to find the a&h washing soda only the deturgant and bakeing soda which is not the same. the oxy i get here at dollar general is $5 for a 6lb tub so i think i'm just gonna stick with the oxy it is alot cheaper for alot more of it. after i make some i will let u all know how it comes out and how we liked it and what we used and which recipes. if anyone else makes it would sure love to hear how ur batches come out and work also.

We called Arm & Hammer and tell them that none of the stores in our area carry their Washing Soda, and they will sold us a few boxes at wholesale price. With free shipping! Might be worth a try.

will let u know once it cools down how it turned out and what it does as it sits and how it works in the wash.

i used this recipe from the link i posted above but changed it a little-

Recipe #1 (for liquid deturgent)

1 quart Water (boiling)
2 cups Bar soap (grated)
2 cups Borax
2 cups Washing Soda

■Add finely grated bar soap to the boiling water and stir until soap is melted. You can keep on low heat until soap is melted.
■Pour the soap water into a large, clean pail and add the Borax and Washing Soda. Stir well until all is dissolved.
■Add 2 gallons of water, stir until well mixed.
■Cover pail and use 1/4 cup for each load of laundry. Stir the soap each time you use it (will gel).

-i changed the soap to tone almond milk soap(stead of the zote, Fels Naptha soap) i used a whole bar shredded to make the 2 cups and substatuted oxy clean for the washing soda.
