Anyone have a good shaving soap recipe?

The one I have is just sheabutter, Vitamin E, water and lye. Hubby likes it but I want to "beef" up the recipe.

I made some shaving soap that has lasted my DH forever. It has castor oil at around 8-10% and some bentonite clay for slip. If I were you I would take the recipe you have to www.soapcalc.net and see what the values are when you add castor at 8-10% and possibly some palm kernel and olive oil. Add the bentonite clay to some of your olive oil and add it at light trace.

This is the recipe I used for shaving soap.

Olive 190 gm
Coconut 144 gm
Palm 129 gm
Castor Oil 37 gm

Lye 71.40 gm
Water 160 gm
2 Tablespoons of Bentonite Clay

I decided to make this in a small batch so I used Grams instead of Ounces. What I will do next time is allow the bentonite clay to sit in some of the water overnight and add it at trace. This will allow the clay to fully hydrate. Also, I think I will try putting in more castor.

I was fooling around on SoapCalc with your idea of shaving soaop made mainly with Shea Butter. Enter these values and see what you think of this:

Shea 50%
Coconut 25%
Castor 25%

Add your Vitamin E at trace as well as your soaked bentonite clay.


It looks like it would have good conditioning as well as bubbles and hardness. Given the oils it would probably last forever.

Hi ladies, I am looking for a recipe for a mild soap. I have made 2 small batches of soap the first when I wash my face with it burns just a very little, as I have sensitive skin. I had let the soap rest for 3 weeks before I used it…..was that long enough? I would like a recipe that others have tried get is a good face soap, I also have very DRY skin.
