I believe that palm oil is from from the fruit of the palm tree and PKO is made from the seeds. They have different fatty acid makeups.

Morgaine~ my dd boyfriend was over the day I made the soap for the swap which has lard in it....he now tells everyone at thier school "Laura's mom is so cool. She took something that stinks and made soap that smells soooooo gooooodd" I have made 3 batches using lard and only one had a little smell to it. Just thought I would share so maybe you won't dread Lard so much.

I use lard or tallow in many of my recipes. I have never noticed a smell to the soap even in soaps that have been on the shelf for a year.

I render my own from leaf fat from the butcher. It is really white. This is tallow I was using this week.

I usually render over several days and store in buckets in the fridge in the barn or the freezer. I thaw it out the day before using.

Got to keep those temps low when rendering AND when soap making from AO (animal oils).

If you get the oil too hot, you're going to have an unpleasant smell - and that goes for both AO & VO

I'm sorry. I was so excited that he liked the shampoo bar. That makes the second soap he has been impressed with lol I get ahead of myself sometimes. Okay, most of the time lol

I think he might secretly understand it but choses not to. Selective hearing huh? But when he took me out for breakfast I had an idea for soap and I giess I was talking to fast because I was excited (I get that way with soap) he didn't even get the blub blub look lol
