I have some chickens with footprints on their backs and some without. Should I think the rooster is habituated to wearing out the feathers of some hens while ignoring the rest? Should I be mindful of fertilization rate? Some of the hens I would like to get hatch eggs from don’t have footprints.

Typically, higher ranking hens will not allow a cockbird to mate her with the same frequency as her subordinate flockmates. I would imagine that the fertilisation rate is fine, but you can check egg fertility.
