Soda of death for mice?

I worked for one summer as a park naturalist at Meeman Shelby Forest north of Memphis and we had raptors to feed. Though we had a good supply of frozen rodents, we found an easy way to catch them fresh and it was with a 5 gallon bucket.

We put 1 to 2 inches of bird seed in the bottom of the bucket, then placed it next to some shelves and desks in the nature center office where we were having mice issues. Everyday there would be at least one in there jumping, jumping, jumping...

So many things to try!!!

Thank you guys for the responces!! Now to boot the lazy cat out of the barn for a few days. Found lots of red feathers in the barn but they still haven't caught any mice.. Useless! Useless are cats I say!!!
