Soft rubber Eggs, Dropped Egg Syndrome ?? * Pic included

I will try to answer your questions :
1) Yes they are eating the oyster shell, they love it
2) They are outside all day so vit D should not be the issue
3) Stress, I don't think so, nothing has changed for 3 wks
4) Nothing bothering them at night that I know of
5) I have not seen any of them sniffle
6) Last week was warm and egg production was down, this week has been cool, so maybe that is the source of stress ?????

Initially I thought it was just one hen laying them, since last night, I have 4 rubber eggs, out of 5 hens.

I have a wait and see type attitude. Since they don't have any other symptoms I would see if it happens again. I feed egg shells ground up in the blender. I screwed a tuna tin to the wall and they help themselves. My flock seem to like them and it's the green thing to do.

Is anything disturbing your birds at night?

This is an excellent consideration. I should have mentioned that in an earlier post, but disturbances at night can cause unformed eggs to be forced out. Disturbances can include loud noise nearby, predators trying to get in and even rats. Anything basically that can make them nervous suddenly.

I guess you could try getting some extra calcium in the problem hen. Put it in something good so she feels special!

Humm.... that would make sense wouldn't it to have that many eggs all laid at night... This morning I had no soft eggs at all, so we shall see if they lay "normally" in their nests today. Will check on my lunch and report back.

It's not just one hen I am worried about, it's all of them now...
