Yikes,

my 2 dear, sweet Barred Rocks (not sure which) may be ill. One of them layed an egg this afternoon that has a very soft, rubbery "shell." I dare call it a shell because it's soft adn pliable. Anyone w/ help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Amy

I've had one of those, don't know who laid it, and never saw another one and no one looked sick. They had just started laying, and I figured it was just thier bodies gearing up. Good luck, and I hope its nothing to worry about!

Not sure what to think because they've been laying BEAUTIFUL eggs since we got them 2 1/2 mo ago (they're about 8-10 mo). I DID add oyster shell to their feed this a.m. which I haven't done if a while. Hmmm...

Yep. Just happens sometimes. I know that people do this differently, but I generally think it's preferable to put out a dish of oyster shell separately rather than adding it to the food. That way those that need it can take as much as they need and those that don't need so much aren't having to take more than they need.
Good luck!

Edited to say that I usually cook those shell less eggs and give them back to the birds...
