Soft shell & looking ill.

Hi-

I hope this is ok to post the same thing twice but I noticed not with my hen that her eyes look bubbly now in the corner. So I don't know if this is just an egg problem or what.

I am sorry but I feel likie my computer is about to crash because it is running verrrrrry slow so I haven't looked up this problem beforehand.

I noticed today that the hens all ran to one spot in the coop so I went to investigate. They were eating what looked like raw egg. Our hen Bonnie was there, with a yolk soaked tush. So I brought her in and saw that the egg shell-very soft obviously- was still in her vent. I took it out and I also noticed it seemed like her balance was a bit off, tipping forward and droopy tail. She is congested. Clumps of yellow mucus? I guess around her nostils. What ever it is, it looks different than the mucus I have seen before.

This is also the bird that I had to treat with Cocci a while back.

I haven't seen her poo today and she doesn't seem to have lost weight.

Please advise.

irregardless of any possible viral or bacterial illness she may have, I would first like to go back to the cocci... cocci will damage the intestines and cause malabsorption of nutrients ... please give this bird Avia Charge 200o immediately if you have it (you can order online from McMurry or Strombergs) and in addition to that POLYVISOL ENFAMIL (four drops once a day in beak for a week then taper off the next). Vit A deficiency often goes hand in hand with respiratory illness and the Vit D3 will help the softshell issue.

I have Poly on hand so I will start on that today and get the AC 2000. I should do this for a couple of weeks before I concern myself w/other meds?

keep monitoring her symptoms and if they get worse then report that back here... keep her separate and in a clean dry draft free environment

I have her in a cage in the basement .

I noticed that when I picked her up, she was vomiting from her mouth and nose what looked like a watery yogurt substance. No-I haven't given her any yogurt. She must have been vomiting for a while because the whole front of her is wet.

My husband said he noticed her falling asleep. She'd be standing there and her head would go down so that her beak was touching the ground and she'd be like that for a while and the wake up.

Once she seems to have stopped vomiting, I'll try the Poyl again. I've never seen a chicken vomit before.
