Hi, BYC Friends!

Obviously, I am fairly new to raising chickens. Our girls are appx. 6 1/2 mos old now. We have RIR, BO. one White Leghorn, and Blue Marans. They are not all laying yet, but the 23 pullets are yielding an average of 11-12 eggs/day. On two days this week, we have found eggs with soft shells. They broke open on one end. Is this a young hen's first eggs? Will it harden as she ages? All of the other eggs are beautiful and the shells are solid.

I appreciate any help that you can offer. :)

Some pullets just do that as they're getting started. It even happens sometimes latter on. It's usually nothing to worry about. Just make sure they're getting enough calcium.

Thank you! I thought that might be the case.. But, then when I got the second soft shell today, I really wondered. I appreciate your help! Blessings!
