Hi all,

Our hens are just starting to lay. The shells so far have seemed pretty strong and thick. Today after getting home from work, we found a soft shelled egg in the coop. That in and of itself was not so concerning at this point, but nearby was a strange looking dropping that almost looks like it has a membrane or egg yolk in it. I don't know if they came from the same chicken, but it seems like they could be related.

The weird poop has me concerned about EYP or something else like egg shell stuck inside someone? This is all new to us.

All 3 chickens seem to be acting perfectly normal right now.

Images attached with close up of the weird poop (sorry). Am I being webmd-type paranoid at this point, or do we already have something to call a vet about?

Do you happen to have any clearer pictures of this first image above?

Which image? On my screen the image of the poop is the first one and is very clear. The other image is of the soft shelled egg on the ground near the poop. My husband took that before the egg was removed and poop scooped out. I am attaching a better image of the egg if that's what you want to see.

We feed them scratch and peck feeds. Mostly layer feed - some grower feed mixed in because we just switched over recently. And we have free oyster shell out nearby. They also do a lot of free ranging in our backyard.
