What would cause a hen/pullet to keep laying very thin, soft shelled eggs?
I keep finding the odd very thin, soft shelled egg, broken in the nest box. Not sure who is laying it, but it is a normal sized, light coloured egg.
I think it could possibly be my light sussex 30wks old, who has not layed since i got her in November, or so i thought. She has been ill since i got her, she came to me with an impacted crop, which has turned to sour crop, which i'm still treating.
Everyone else who should be laying is, also because of the colour of the egg i do suspect it is the LS.
Could she be laying so irregular and soft eggs because she is ill? And is there any thing i can do about the soft eggs? I do have oyster shells available at all times for the girls to help themselves to.
Any thing else i could maybe offer her?
Many thanks.

I have found that grinding up their egg shells and mixing them with yogurt has been effective. You shoudl make sure that your suspect is able to eat her share.
