Would anyone have reccomendations for safe soil to grow some grass for my hens to eat? I plan on putting a raised box with chicken wire on top so they can get to it all. I would also like to know if there are safe soils or dirt I can buy that wouldn't harm them. I heard I'm not supposed to get anything with fertilizer in it, but everything I looked at had some.

Pretty much anything will work - native soil, potting mixes and growing mediums, etc. You can also grow grass seed (and MANY other bulk seeds) without soil too - look into "sprouted fodder"
Oooo, just looked it up. Definitely ordering that!

Keep in mind: there is a contrast among soil and earth. Earth is the thing that you get on your garments and hands while working in the dirt. Soil is comprised of components that have been breaking down since the earth was made. Soil is made out of bedrock and mountain stones separated over ages by wind and downpour.

Thank you! Good info!
