Soiled chook

:lau:gig
You'r looking at the original roosts. I added a roost which I also posted a link to, it's a bit higher up in this thread. Nevermind, here ya go...this is the page,, just scroll down a bit to see the pic.

Haha!
A bigger roost might be more comfortable for her to stay up on.
I have a poop board and some birds sleep underneath, there's a few frozen poops on birds back....no really wet ones tho.

She can't even walk the ramp let alone jump onto a roost. I've found her roosting on those low ones in the morning but she can't get down all 2 inches without tripping over her own pigeon toes. LOL

Could take the higher roost back out.
This thread made me look closer at my birds.
Poop on back seems to have been preened off,
but some bird have poopsicles on their butt fluff.
Might have to take some scissors out there for some trims.

I had a thread about training my chicks to go in at night. Someone said they weren't going in to roost because there was no roost. That's why I added the higher roost. After 6 weeks three of the gals go inside and roost without me physically placing them insiide. So...hmmmm. Do I dare remove that roost now? It would solve the problem of chicken poopcicles. Hubby might not be happy climbing inside during this deep freeze to unscrew the roost:oops:
Food for thought.

Improvisation is my middle name. I know Pecca isn't going to jump up on a higher perch than the low ones pre-installed. Found 2 cigar boxes I'm not using. Tied them together its a good 3 inches tall. Put that in a corner away from the line of fire. Now to wait and see if she uses it.
Or place her there since you place her in the coop anyway. I leave one of my nest boxes open at night as they only use one anyway. The one that is open, my EE sleeps in. She's molting and so I leave her be. Then, in the morning, I open up the nest box that they want access to.

I did place her on it. Next morning she was huddled in the back. I guess she wasn't impressed.

She does huddle under the gals, possibly its warmer under them. If it warms up a bit (I'm in NJ in the midst of the snowstorm you're watching on the news) I might try removing the big roost. Gotta think on that thought a bit
