The issue is simply that A ROOF FAN (any sort) is not a very good solution, certainly not the most effective or efficient one, to the problem of a hot summertime coop. No matter whether it's solar or plug-in.

I bought an electric fan from my local auto parts store for $60.00 and hooked a solar panel directly to it. The more sun that hits it, the faster it blows. Our birds love it

I am looking at putting a vent fan in as well, both a small, cheap version for the current coop and possibly use it as part of the ventilation for my new coop design. This would be more as a boost to air exchange than replace other ventilation. Probably wander through the local thrift stores for a small fan and then start playing with electricity.
