solar heat from pop cans...

plexi glass is used on about anything,, boat windshields, and things like that, and they never melt,, your not gonna see 180 degree temps in this thing, your gonna see temps like ya see in your car with the windows up in the summer.

some use copper,,,, but it dont matter lol,,, we use plastic pipe in the oilfield all the time, black and sitting out in an open field,,,, and like janey said,, it is only when it burns and gives of smoke,,, which takes ALOT of heat to do without a flame.

Yes...but this is commercial/industrial grade plexi glass with a certain 'gauge' designed specifically for boats, motorcycles. Not the stuff that is sold at Home Depot...if you can get your hands on some from a boat manufacturer you are all set.
Imagine plexiglass being exposed to the elements year after year in Maine...the plexiglass will become clouded and etched with acid rain...thus preventing the absorption of the suns rays. Definitely...not built to last. BUT if you used double paned glass...I think you are on to something! I'd still use fire retardant caulk/foam...just to be safe...and store this in the garage out of the sun light in summer.

I've been in two many burning buildings to trust it...and had too many home owners cry on my shoulder as they watched their house burn to the ground.

Just buy those black PVC tubes and endcaps. Glue one end on, fill with water, glue the other end on. Those have a LOT of mass and will stabilize the temperatures - it won't get hot nearly as fast, but it will stay hot for a lot longer.

I did this in my coldframe and was thinking of building a window in the next coop section with these in front of it. In the evening, if you closed the window with a good thermal curtain, the tubes would release heat back into the room for quite a while...
