Solar power for chicken coop

Mine has a red filter that seems to give me more time.
Your headlight?
Have had red and green I can't see well with them.
Mine has 3 other settings and is on a hinge, I just set it dim and point it up to grab bird,
then high setting and pointed down to examine bird.

Supplemental laying lights need to be precisely and consistently timed.

I use a headlight, both hand free and light exactly where I need it.
No need to wake the whole flock at once to do an exam/treatment.

I was hoping to just use a dim light for the purpose of finding chickens. I don’t want to blind anyone either! I’d rig up a timer if I did want to use a light to encourage laying, but that’s a plan for far down the road. For now I just wanted the capacity to do so if I did ever want to use supplemental lighting. Plan for more than what you need!

I agree with the above that 12v should be considered. Much more efficient use of your solar power that way. But I don't know how you would rig a timer to that. It may well be possible, but off the top of my head I'm just not sure how to do it.

12v timers are available...something that can be wired into a system,
but not 'off the shelf plug and play'.
