solar vs 12v/battery fence chargers

i just got off the phone with premier1supplies.com. i got a 15 minute education on chargers, joules, volts, and how to set my system up. and i saved about $150.

frank talked me out of the 8 joule charger i’ve been looking at. apparently more joules just means it can power more fence. on a shorter fence, it doesn’t deliver a bigger shock.

he recommended this energizer, which will power up to 2 miles of cattle fence with over 10,000 volts.

he also talked me out of buying a “kit” that comes with 100 feet of insulated wire, and showed me insulated wire that they sell in 5ft increments.

I’ve had several.

Real world is about 2-3 days if it’s a self contained unit. Large deep cycle eternal battery types go for 10-12 days.
What kind of charger is that hard on a battery and what kind of battery?

Your experience is totally different then mine has been. Generally any old car battery that will hold a charge is good for a month on the average farm store charger.
